I am looking for information on Percy Chester Dwhytie. The only info I have been able to find, through Ancestry.com is that he was born around 1889, in Toxteth Park, Lancashire, England. I have also found a reference to a William Dwhytie on a Lancashire census form, listed as an 8 year old "waif or stray", but I can not find a date on the form. Possibly a sibling or father.

Hi
On the 1901 Census there is a William DWHYTIE in a Home for Waifs and Strays in Brick Street Warrington Lancashire. His age is given as 8 and his birthplace is Not Known.
I will see what else I can find for you

Thanks, I have a copy of that census record but could not find a date on it.
My father was Harold Nelson, born March 11, 1909. He came to Canada with his mother, Sarah Jessie Nelson (nee Poole), and Grew up as Harold Nelson. In 1935 he needed a birth certificate and found that he had actualy been born Harold Dwhytie. Sarah Jessie was married to a John Nelson, with a Percy Cester Dwhytie listed as one of the witnesses at the wedding. It would appear that Percy was my grandfather but I can find no other reference to him but that census form. Quite a mystery.

This must be your Dad :)
Harold Dwhytie March Q 1909 West Derby 8b 337

William T Dwhytie married an Ellen M Small in March Q 1919 at Windsor :)

The West Derby birth looks right.
It looks like Harold and his mother, Jessie S. Nelson are permanently in Canada by 1916.
In 1912 Harold, 3 and his mother Jessie S. Nelson, 40 arrived in Canada on the Empress of Ireland. She said she was going to husband but it's written over as Partner and it looks like she's given six month to stay.
Then in 1916, on the Scandinavian, she's back again ....
Mrs Jessie S. Nelson, 46 and Harold, 6. She's going to Winnipeg and has been in Canada before, 3 years, Manitoba.
They are on the 1916 Manitoba census with John Nelson, 61. Jessie is 44? and Harold is 7.
So we're looking for a Dwhytie in England who could be Harold's father, I think ???

Good question!! ;D
Alan - when & where did the marriage you have for Sarah Jessie Poole and John Nelson take place? There is one in Mansfield Jun Q 1930 but that doesn't make sense ???
-
Perhaps Jessie Sarah or Sarah Jessie was being "optimistic" about her age in 1912/1916. If age 40/44 was correct and she is the same woman who married Joseph Dwhytie in 1885 she would have been 13 years old :o

William Tracey Dwhytie served in WWI in Canada.
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/cef/001042-119.01-e.php?id_nbr=370055
he gives his next of kin as his mother, Jessie Nelson.
on findmypast I believe he's indexed as "DWHYTRE", heading out in 1912.
he's on the 1911 census as "DWHYTER". Can't find the rest of the family.

- does show a christening for Harold Joseph Dwhytie in 1896 in Liverpool which shows his father as Joseph and mother as Jessie.
Presumably the marriage is the one in 1911 on freebmd in Birkenhead: John Nelson, Jessie S. Craig?
