Title: Kimber or Osment
Post by: 3merrylads on Saturday 08 May 10 18:34 BST (UK)
Trying to find a birth record for a Frederick Kimber or could have been Osment 1876 possibly born in Manchester but then living in Somerset.

Struggling to pin him down any ideas

Thanks

Hi

Sorry to have to ask so many questions but there are a number of Frederick Kimber's and with so little definite info we need to be sure we find the right one for you

What else do you know about him (eg) where did you get his name and birthyear from?

If it was from a marriage cert - what was his fathers name and occupation?

What was Frederick's occupation when he married

Did he have a middle name or was he just Frederick as the 1901 has a Frederick J Kimber aged 27 b Manchester but living in Essex - interior designer and decorator

Where does the surname Osment come from? Is it from the 1891 census entry?

When did he marry and who to?

If he married before 1911 - have you looked for him on the 1911 census as that will give his birthplace

Have you already discounted the 1881 entry for Frederick J Kimber aged 7 b Manchester - parents Charles and Annie?

Births September qtr 1873  Frederick James Kimber    Chorlton  8c 690

Hi,
From his marriage certificate his name is Frederick Harry Kimber age 29 in April 1904 occupation farmer, no Fathers details, this is part of the mystery, he married Edith Ada Mary Darknell in Charlton Musgrove church Somerset.

Looking at the 1891 and 1901 cencus there is a Frederick Osment, nephew to James and Annie Kimber and in 1901 he becomes Frederick Kimber nephew born in Charlton Musgrove.

James Kimber did have a sister Martha Ann who was married to an Osment so there is a twist in here somewhere but would really like to find hard evidence as to who his parents were and if he really was born in Manchester.

Have looked for birth record with no success, any pointers you could give would be most helpful.

Many thanks

There is an Osmond family in Charlton Musgrove in 1861/71 with a son Henry (age 13) in 1861) Isn't Harry an alternative/nickname for Henry?

It looks like he possibly was down as Osmond on the 1881 and that would fit with Charles Kimber as his grandfather think that Charles daughter Martha is possibly his Mum.
have found a frederic osmond birth record so might send for that one it seems to be a fit.

many thanks

The 1911 index for Frederick Harry Kimber aged 35 (1876) matches if you show his birthplace as Manchester

He was living in Wincanton Somerset in 1911

There's also a birth for a Harry Frederick Osment in Jun quarter 1875 in Frome. (freebmd)
Can't see any marriage/death for him.

Marriages March qtr 1874

Martha Ann Kimber    Bristol  6a 99
John Osment

Martha was the sister of James Kimber - Frederick was living with him in 1891.  Their parents were Charles & Charlotte

See 1861 ref  RG9 Piece 1649 Folio 65 Page 14

See also 1881 entry already posted above - I would hazard a guess that Martha was his mother and she then married Osment

Martha was still with parents Charles & Charlotte in 1871
