Hi,
I have just received 3 old photographs from my aunt - none of which print out very clearly. This group one is the worst. Could anyone kindly improve the image for me?
Many thanks.

Here's a desaturated version
Can you rescan the original at a greater resolution (ie 300 to 500 dpi), WITHOUT including the scanner lid! You can do this by prescanning first, and then selecting the image area to do the final scan on.
Than repost it.
The attached version is too small too work for good results!
-
Sorry Mudge, but I cannot. The image has been sent to me via email and I do not have the original [or a scanner!]
Thanks for trying for me.
Elaine

Hi Mudge,
Please dont give up on me - just yet!! I have emailed my uncle to see if he do as you have requested. Although he is quite computer literate - he is 80 years old - and I will have to wait to see if he understands your instructions!
Thank you!
Elaine
-
Very hard one to improve but here's my attempt :)
-
Yes - Mudge also says it is. You should see the picture I printed off, it is almost impossible to see anyone on it.
Thank you for trying Tony - it is a little lighter. Both yours and Mudges efforts are better than what I already have - although I havent tried to print either as yet. I have never attempted to alter photos and wouldnt know where to begin even if I had the software to do it with.
If my uncle manages to get a higher resolution copy to me - would this make a vast difference?
Thanks
Elaine

While we are all waiting to see if my uncle can do the 'impossible' - does anyone have any ideas regarding dating this photo?
Elaine

nudge re dating?
Many thanks

Hi,
I have received the original photos from my aunt now. If I get someone to scan them to the resolutions required is anyone up for helping me with a fairly fast turnaround on the pictures? The reason for the fast turnaround is, if I can get them to a family history society before the end of June, the pictures may be included within a book they are planning to publish. To have my relatives in it would be .... well, brilliant!!! I would be eternally grateful for any help.
By the by, do the attached photos need to be scanned again as well?
Many thanks!

Any very kind volunteers out there?? :'(
-
nudge :-* have i upset everyone on rootschat?
-
Hi Lainie...I'm sure you haven't upset anyone it's just slipped down the board....I'm sure if you can get a higher resolution scan of your photos and post them separately on new threads that the restorers will do all they can to help you.
If you change the title of your post by using the modify button to include the dating request then it will be picked up by the dating experts :D
Carol

Thanks Carol - I was beginning to feel like billy-no-mates!!!! The boards can make you a bit paranoid sometimes!!!! :-\
Elaine

Hi,
It has taken along time - but I now have the photos scanned [I am told] to a resolution of 600 [uncle couldnt do it, so some kind work colleague has!]
If any of you could improve the images for me - I would be eternally grateful!
Many, many thanks [in anticipation]

Hi Tony,
Many thanks!! Is it also possible to have the image without the oval frame?
Elaine

Wow - Tony - what a difference!!!! You can actually clearly see the expressions on faces! [not that you would want to with some of my family! lol]
Thank you.
Elaine

Whatever you wish!!

Unfortunately a couple of them must have moved their heads while the pic was being taken! Mostly the kids!! ;D
Tony

Thanks alot Tony - looks much better without the 'frame' I think.
Do you have any idea of the date of any of these photos? Should I post them on another thread to ask this?
Elaine

One from me

Elaine
The best people to ask are on this board Elaine - I'm not one of them!! Jim, Prue, Lydart, and many others. Obviously, with the different time zones, some may not have had chance to look at the pics yet so I'd give it a little time. It might be worth re-titling the thread to ask for dating as well. Just go into your original post and click on "modify" and change the title there.
Tony

Terry - that is great!! Many many thanks.
Tony - I will take your advice and change the thread title to see who it attracts!! Thanks.
You are all very clever!!

Hi Terry and Carolyn,
This just gets better and better!!!! Thank you so much! I really didnt think that I would get so many replies and restorations - I really am spoiled for choice now!
I think that I will let my dad choose his own picture of his grandfather from the great restorations done.
Thank you again.
Elaine x
ps/ you may be fed up with me in the near future - as I have another picture that I feel VERY dear about that I would love to have restored so that I can print it out and frame for me!!! Will post on that one soon, when my kind colleague has scanned for me.

One from me.
