Title: George Osborn - Bromley, Kent
Post by: Atlanta1 on Thursday 06 May 10 16:00 BST (UK)
Hello,
I am looking for information on the ancestors of Bertram P Osborn b. 1879 son of George Osborn b. 1836 and Mary A (?).  Wondering who George's parents were - and the maiden name of his wife - cant find George on the 1841 Census.  I know they came from Bromley, Kent.
Any information would be great
thank you

One step at a time!

You can find MAry's maiden name from Bertrams birth cert.

Hopefully that will lead you to George and Mary's marriage - and that cert will give you George's fathers name and occupation.
As George was born pre 1837, i t will be a case of searching parish records for a christening. With a place of birth from the censuses (have you found the family in 1881 which is free to search as a starting point?Though best to find on all to see if consistant with yr and pob) and a fathers name, you will have more chance of finding the right record.

Some Kent PR's are online on the cityark site, sorry not got full address to hand, but it will come up on a search. Dont know if this covers Bromley

OK got it

RG12 627 124 20

eldest child with them then is 22, so marriage will be a while back from there.

Have you found (or looked) for the family in 1881?

but as there are no replies there it is best if we continue on this one

Do you have him in 1851 where he's an apprentice (transcribed as age 10 though, but looks like 16 to me) Hes described as "relative" to George and Ann Downard and family in Plymouth

hi,
thank you - to be honest I can only find Bertram  in the 1901 when he is married to a Mabel (born St Johns London 1888?)with a son named bertram aged 28 months in what I think is Park Cottage Bromley.

Cant find any more information on him esp. his ancestors?

I am a direct Osborn decendant of William Osborn b.1815 bromley m. Martha Burrows - know they fit in somewhere, but where?

Perhaps somebody would be kind enough to post full details from the 1891 census then try working back  from there.

Thank you so much I have found them now!!

Looks like George's dad was James Osborn born in 1786 - unable to go back any further.

I wonder if James was brother to my ancestor William Osborn b. 1781?

Oh well - forever researching.

Best wishes to you all

My Great Great Grandfather was Bertram Percival Osborn. I haven't done too much research into the Osborns but.....Bertrams father was George and Mother was Mary Ann Silver from Erith Kent. George was a decorater. George's father was James, I can find them in 1841 and 1851. His wife was Elizabeth and they had quite a few children.  I found christening for George Osborn on familysearch.org in dec 1834.

Hi there
I am writing the life story of Ernest Osborn who left a manuscript of his life and times.
He died in 2011 in Victoria Australia. Ernest is the son of Bertram Percival Osborn and Mable Florence. He was born 1917.
Brothers & Sisters: Walter Percy - Ivy Florence - Lillian Ada and Bertram William. His grandfather was Bertram mother Mary Ann ( see 1881 Bertrin Astrum) weird.!
There is a great deal in the manuscript about his brothers and sisters and growing up in Bromley.
A wonderful story . His wife Olive is still alive, she is my 2nd cousin.  Ernest gave me away at my wedding - they are a great family. If I can be of further help please let me know. He wrote about his fathers siblings, especially his aunt Ada he mentions that George was a ''in service  in one of those big houses.''

Bertram (Bertie) born 1879 died 27th Feb 1937 Bromley. Married Mable Florence Lucas.
She walked out on  the family abt 1920.( re-married).
Children Bertram William 1901 - Lillian Ada 1902 Ivy - Florence 1905 - Walter Percy - 1909 Nellie
Marjory 1913 and Ernest Ernie, who married my second cousin and died 2011.
Is this the side you are looking for. The 1881 census has their name incorrectly spelt,. If you contact me via email I can give you Bertram's father George etc. I would love to know where you fit in.
Regards
