Title: Another tree
Post by: shan42 on Wednesday 05 May 10 20:47 BST (UK)
I did a tree for my step-mum a while back, I couldn't believe how easy her family was to track - almost every one an immediate find.... sod's law!!  ;D
One day I might do more on it, if she wants to expand it, (and if I ever stop doing mine!!) but for now she's happy with what I've done and I'm really pleased to have helped her  :)

Yep, I agree

It's odd that the branch which you have found which turns out to be that little bit more intriguing than another part is the one you have trouble sorting out.

Again, I wish my ancestors used some more unusual names other than George, James, Florence & Jane, to name but a few   ???

Yes, we seem to have about a hundred Williams & Elizabeths in one branch! Luckily I think we only have one Smith so far though  ;D

I've done my brother in law's Scottish tree which was easier and more interesting that mine.  ;)

what can we do with "false leads" where we've gathered info on the wrong family? Seems a shame to just throw it away....

by the way, try looking for John Jones in Wales  ;)

Depends how many false leads you have I suppose - keep it in a file somewhere incase anyone comes on here & gets stuck?

Good luck with John Jones - I had a friend of that name in Wales if it helps...  ;D

Ive been stuck for some months now. Then had an inspiration ( A what if moment). What if instead of the occupation the info on the certificate was a name. And one transcription error suddenly made sense and Ive now shot through what appeared to be a complete blockage. And as confirmation one of the early census returns allowed me to confirm the error. Brilliant. Tailor was written down when the name should have been Taylor ( I thought that I had already noted that he was a soldier)

Onwards and Upwards

Ah, the light-bulb moment! Well done!  :D

I tend to work alot on intuition, and it's always right  ;)

If you have acquired any actual certs that aren't yours, you could post them on http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,153.0.html to help others out.
