I am trying to trace James Huggett & his wife Nancy (possibly a family pet name), parents of William Huggett. William married a Jane Churchill.
On William's & Jane's marriage certificate, their residence at time of marriage was 'Tonbridge Wells'. I know the towns are either Tonbridge or Tunbridge Wells but that is how it is written on the certificate. They were married in the Parish Church in the Parish of Tonbridge in the county of Kent in 1850.
At the time of Williams marriage, his father, James, was a labourer. Janes father, William Churchill, was a shoemaker.
William & Jane had left England in Septmeber 1852.
I hope this can help someone to help me.

Hi Sharles,
What information are you looking for?
My first step would be to look for them in the 1851 census. I would say to post a request on the Census request board if you do not have access to one, but at the moment we only have offers of lookup on the Deptford and Woolwich ares in Kent. It may be worth a try anyway though. :-\
Kazza.

Thanx Kazza,
Good idea ...... I will take your advice because as you say.... it is worth a shot.... ::)
I had noted there were no census for the Kent area & so posted a message in the Kent area board.

These are from 1851 Census for Tunbridge Wells.
The CHURCHILL's seem to be right but the HUGGETT family father is wrong name but may be some relation
as you can see they were only 5 doors apart.

wow, thanx Robert.... this is great and will certainly give me something to work on in the next step of my search.
yes, the Churchill does look good and as for the Huggetts... well who knows. considering I know so little about the James Huggett family, they could well be who I am looking for.
Cheers Sharyn ;D ;D ;D

Don't have access to census...but there is a James c.1793 in 1841 Tonbridge Wells
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MQ29-B3Q
christening https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/VWZD-NYD
potential five siblings incl. a Wm. http://www.rootschat.com/links/0k5a/
also here, same Non-Conformist records http://www.bmdregisters.co.uk/
Nancy nickname for Ann, Anna, Agnes, Nannie, Hannah, Nanette
Might be a clue, sibling, or using middle names ( sometimes middle names are used in families where children have same names to avoid confusion, but not for for the descendants ;D )
....a marriage comes up in 1827 for a William and a Tilly Avery (Could be Temperance, Matilda, Clotilda, Otillia, Natalie but has been used for just about anything)
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NKVG-LX2
James could have died before census, wife been remarried to brother/cousin, or couple never married, or middle name being used, or Tilly could have also died and been replaced by Dilby...or that is the same nickname being badly phoneticised...** adding nevermind about the 2 names as she is also transcribed as Dilly in the 1827 marriage extract but in a different batch file #!! ( who knows what the actual name might be Delilah, Deliverance, Adele, Delores, Dilys, Dilwen, Cordilia, Daffodil )
other activity in Tunbridge on there

I see now the original query was really old...oh well...adding it all anyway in case something not found yet
Another James of Tunbridge Wells ended up in North Sydney, NSW
http://tribalpages.com/tribe/familytree?uid=huggett&surname=HUGGETT
aha, he was a born Pembury to a James & Ann "Huggate" https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/J7FX-CY2
also potential births for James & Ann: Caroline, William 27 Aug 1826, Harriet, Matilda, William & Jesse ( Note/: "Huggate" used a lot in these Pembury-the new FHS site doesn't look for full phonetics anymore that's why I only found it now)
https://familysearch.org/search/records/index#count=20&query=%2Bsurname%3Ahugget~%20%2Bfather_givenname%3Ajames%20%2Bbatch_number%3AI03358-3
and also a James Huggate christened 1791 Pembury to a John & Elizabeth
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NXWX-Z4M
so there were 2 James, did the one head to Australia with his family as well!!!?

Hi all,
My hubby is descended from Stephen HUGGETT (hoggett, Huggate???) from "Nr Tonbridge Wells", Kent. Born c 1810 (according to his death in Tasmania). Mother Sarah, Father Thomas. Brother James, brother Henry, sister Hannah. Was sent as convict in 1844 to VDL. Can anyone help
with any connections to his family??
Regards Lynne in Tasmania

There are a great deal of christenings showing in Pembury, including a Stephen ( baptised 1815) and more siblings than mentioned, altho hard to say if all one family... The James one has Ed. Thos. Huggate listed as father...Could be same fellow using a middle name, but more digging needed to prove more http://www.rootschat.com/links/0wfu/
Also a promising marriage Aug 20 1809 Tunbridge, Kent for a Thomas Huggate & Sarah Turner, no parents listed though https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NXHG-VQG
An interesting site for you http://www.theweald.org/a22.asp?QId=82107050&astart=179999999&aend=185000000
