Thanks Ouma

There are many types of  driller, but no "mechanical driller" (there is machine driller) in "A Dictionary of Occupational Terms" Can you please say where you found "mechanical driller" as the location could help  :)

Hi Stan

Thanks for the reply. He was listed on the 1861 census as a mechanical driller and stayed in
Newton - Lancashire Civil Parish Bradford  I think that would be Manchester. Could he have
worked on the mines?

I thought he could have been a driller in a coal mine using a mechanical hand drilling machine, which is why I asked where he lived.

Although a "mechanical driller" could be anyone who used a drill in their occupation  :)
