Title: Beswick Manchester *Completed*
Post by: mrwilson on Saturday 01 May 10 13:10 BST (UK)
Myself and family are disputing all my mothers siblings.. 11 kids in total and in the vicinity of 20 years age difference between the oldest and youngest.

They lived in Gorton Manchester.  Parents John/Jack? and Mary Beswick (nee Manning), known children - John (oldest?), Agnes, Cyril, Peter, Mary and Margaret the youngest born in 1927.  Possibly a William.

Can only find four children listed on freebdm.

Any help appreciated.

Have you found them in the 1911 census? There should be 2 or 3 children by then.
Then if you know the mothers maiden name it would mean a concentrated effort looking at births.

There's about a hundred Mary Beswicks listed in the 1911 census in Lancashire alone.. we don't know her place of birth or date. I believe Margaret was a 'change of life' baby..meaning Mary would have been in her forties I suppose.
The earliest sibling listed on freebdm was born in 1913. As to the other children I don't know why they aren't listed..perhaps records are incomplete.

Births Dec 1913
Beswick    William    Manning    Chorlton    8c   1351

Did you get the marriage certificate?   This would help you trace them back.

Do you have a birth date for any of the older children?
It might be easier to find an Agnes or a Cyril than  Mary.
Alternatively do you have a marriage date for John/Jack and Mary? The cert. could give you Mary's age.

Sorry, silvery beat me to it!

On the 1911 there's a John Beswick b 1886 and a Mary Beswick b 1885 - don't know if they're together.  You would need to buy some credits on the 1911 to look at the transcript.  It would be worth it.

No birth dates except Margarets. April 12 or 14th 1927.  No marriage cert..will get one when certain.

Still the question of the missing kids?

<<<< maybe but allegedly there was @ 20 years diff between oldest and youngest kids..so this wouldn't work unless kids were from a previous marriage?. read it wrong... very well could be!

All agree there was a sibling called John..

so confusing..facts aren't syncing with info handed down.

On the right track... thanks people  ;D

census 1911 -
BESWICK, John M 25, wife Mary 26, Children Mary 2, Ellen 1, John 3 months residence Gorton.

So that's 8 kids accounted for including previously unheard of Veronica born/died in 1925. 3 more to find..  :-\

FreeBMD is incomplete for a few years in your time frame:

Ancestry has fully searchable indices, from 1916. Otherwise you can view the quarterly indices on FreeBMD and elsewhere on subscription sites - slow, but perhaps worthwhile.

WE are SO pleased to hear  from you . I am your cousin veronica . we have been saying how we would love to hear from our cousins in Australia . We know there was a Judith and a Philip and you  are Aunty Margaret 's children and her husband ,my dad Cyril's , best friend Alf Wilson.

In answer to your question , there are only 8 children of John and Mary Beswick , not 11 . Mary-winifred(winnie ) John ,Ellen , William , Agnes, Cyril ,Margaret , Veronica .

I am in regular contact with one of Ellen s daughters Madeleine and Agnes' children Peter and Susan .

I have got our family tree back to about 1550 .

MrWilson/Veronica - pleased to see your connection. Just adding a reminder that "New members must make at least three postings before being allowed to use the PM facility" so Veronica will need another couple of posts to be able to do so. [Eg a couple more comments on this thread]

Dear R. Wilson

You are my cousin or second cousin. My father was the late Cyril Beswick. He was the son of John James Beswick [John/ Jack] and Mary Manning. The eldest daughter was Winifred, and the other daughters were Agnes, who died two or three years ago, Helen and Margaret. The Boys were William, who died young, John and Cyril. There were others who died young, such as Veronica, who died at eight days. The family lived in West Gorton, Manchester, near Gorton Monastery, St Francis' church, to be precise.

Margaret married my father's friend, Alf Wilson, and emigrated to Australia.

Beswick is an ancient Manchester name.

If you post another couple of messages (a smiley, and then another smiley will do) you will be able to click on a name and send a private message.  With email addresses if you want and other information that may concern people yet living or even deceased in some cases.

Great to see a connection though.   :)
