Title: irish family help
Post by: zx123 on Wednesday 28 April 10 23:45 BST (UK)
Hi,
i am trying to research the irish side of my family, and i wondered if anyone could come up with any suggestions for a problem ive come across?
In 1881 i can find maurice and hanora  donovan and their children living in newtown in ebbw vale,
but on the censuses after that i can only find their children,
Ive looked on free bmd,but i cant find any death records for them.
What could have happened to them, could they have gone back to ireland?

Have you checked under variants for their Christian names? Maurice is pronounced (and often spelt) Morris and Hanora can be Nora, Norah, Hannah, Hanna, Anna, Ann, Annie, Johannah, Johanna.

I have checked the name variants,
i couldnt find anything for hanorah donovan,
i found one possibility for morris donovan, but the age is slightly out.

Im not sure if that would be the same hanorah donovan  in east london,
According to the censuses one of their children was born in chatham in kent, so maybe it is her.
I havent heard of a catherine donovan before.

Thanks

There are 1 or 2 DONOVAN's buried in Ebbw Vale on the findagrave.com site. Not sure if you're aware but Newtown is/was part of Ebbw Vale.....
Should keep checking that site because it is updated quite frequently.....
