Title: Ephraim MANSFIELD
Post by: ozboy on Wednesday 28 April 10 03:36 BST (UK)
I am trying to find information about Ephraim Mansfield who came to Australia with his parents, George and Maria Mansfield and their family in 1857. He married Sophia Barnaby in 1869 at Round Swamp NSW and after her death he was married again in 1899 to a lady named in the BDM as being Ellen Asekeller. I cannot find the name Asekeller anywhere so I am thinking it is not correct and I have tried various spellings etc but cannot find a record of either Ephraims death of Ellens death.. They appear to have just disappeared. Ephraim was born in 1845 in Bury St.Edmunds Suffolk England.
Can anyone help.???? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Graham..

Hi Grahan,

He was listed as publican in 1870

Mansfield Ephraim  at Round Swamp  "The Coach and Horses"

in 1887 Police Gazette 1 Jun 1887

Arson
Ilford. On the night of the 25th March last, a shed containing sixteen tons of hay and forty bushels of wheat, the property of Ephraim Mansfield, of Round Swamp, was destroyed by fire, and at an inquest held before the District Coroner, the following verdict was returned : "That a shed containing hay
and wheat, the property of Ephraim Mansfield, was on the night of the 25th instant, feloniously and wilfully set on fire, by some person or persons to us the jurors unknown." Value of properly destroyed, £80. A resident of the district suspected.

Cheers Kris  :)

The Lithgow and District Family History Society hold cemetery records for Round Swamp & all the surrounding cemeteries, perhaps an email to them might shed some light  :)

Hi Mandy and thank you for your reply. You are correct about the burial that you mentioned but the Ellen that the record is about was only 12 years of age according to her death certificate.. Thanks for taking the time to look for me.

You are most welcome  ;)  You don't need to reply thanking each of us separately, so give yourself a big pat on the back because you have taken the time to say thank you to everyone, and if you do want to say thank you individually, you can send a Personal Message, click the GREEN button under my picture, (its bright green as I type this post, that's because I'm active at this minute !, when its Green, but not "lit", I'm not online at RChat, but you can still send a PM).  Please don't feel obliged to send each RChatter a PM, its Just Moi Opinion that its much nicer to read "Thank you everyone" collectively through the thread.

Many Cheers, I think RChat's the bestest online site for family history ... both searching for my forebears and helping others with their searchings.

Ephraim Mansfield was the second husband of Sophia Freeman, my 3xggrandmother. There is a wonderful book called "Over Cherry Tree Hill" written by Margaret Piddington, which has a section on the Mansfield family at Running Stream. It contains photos of the Mansfield family and is a must read book for the descendents of these amazing families. I purchased the book at the general store/garage in Capertee. Worth a visit to the area too. Good luck!

Sorry Mandy but the Ellen Mansfield you refer to is definitely not the wife of Ephraim Mansfield as she was only 12 years of age at the time of her passing and her parents were not George Mansfield and Maria Hurst..
