Help, does anyone know how to get a German Birth Certificate, I have the date of birth name and place, is this enough. ???
Otto Frederick Leopold Dunger (or Duenger) 15th September 1876 Berlin.I also know his father was called Otto as well.
Bare in mind that I can neither speak nor read German.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. :-*

You would have to apply at the records office in Berlin - but Berlin is big - do you know what area of Berlin? Perhaps Berlin Bob could sort this out for you as he's on the spot and speaks German? Why not contact him?
Hope this helps.

The IGI shows Otto Leopold Dunger baptised at St. Elisabeth, Stadt Berlin. I checked for Registry Offices in Berlin and it seems it is possible to order a certificate by email from :
http://www.berlin.de/ba-mitte/org/standesamt/urkundenanforderung.html
Click on : Urkundenanforderung
Anforderung einer Urkunde aus dem Geburtenregister
You can only order a certificate if you are related in direct line.

I found that Otto Leopold on the IGI but its for the date 1841 not 1876, although it is possible that he is the father of the Otto Friedrich Leopold Dunger, who is my grandfather, that I am after. Many many thanks

I looked at the website, but finding it difficult to navigate (yes I know I'm thick)I did transate it into english but certain commands are still in german, and I am not sure how to pay, can you pay by card?

I can't see anything about how to pay. It probably comes after you order the certificate. You could also try an email first and find out and make sure it's the right Standesamt.
I realised the different date but thought the names could be family names. Why don't you post the German words you don't understand.

you are a real star, thank you so much for your help, I do think the Otto born 1841 could be my great grandfather and I have found some of his siblings as well! Will let you know how I get on and thanks again

Hello Leona,
If you proceed through to the end of the ordering process 'Rechnung and Lieferung' (Invoice and Delivery) you have the choice of either Barzahlung (cash), but only when you collect the certificate in person 'Die Urkunde wird abgeholt' or Ueberweisung (money transfer from a German bank account), if you wantthe cert sent to you.
I think as Peonie suggests, you should email them. They should be able to provide banking details (IBAN and IBAC) to allow you to do a money transfer from a UK bank.
