I am trying to find out information on my great great grandmother Johanna Vatkimen m. Gabriel Parola. The only information I have is she was born in Finland apx. 1880 and died around 1918 in New York City. I believe she died of the flu. I have gone all the regular routes with census, immigration and still cannot find any information. Any help please on where to look next.

There's also a death listed for a Gabriel Parola (age 78) 20 Jan.1945 Kings Co. which might be her husband.

Wow you are fast. I have been looking and couldn't find a thing on her. Thank you so much.

Now you need to find her in U.S. census records to see how long she was in U.S., how long married, etc.
LDS Pilot site still not working yet but hopefully someone will be able to find more information for you.

Found em in the US Census 1910.

Johanna - wife - age 37 - married 14 years - born Finland - both parents Finnish - immigrated to US in 1894 - no occupation
Amil - step son - age 16 - apprentice printing store
August - son - age 12
William - son - age 11
Charles - son - age 8
Jenny - daughter - age 7
Emily - daughter - age 5

All eight children born in New York.
Interesting that Amil is listed as Gabriel's stepson. This suggests that this was not Johanna's first marriage.
******************************
In 1930 Gabriel (now listed as Gabriel Parola, widower, captain on boats) was still living in Manhatten with Emily and John. There was also a 19 year old son - possibly Henry but the writing is hard to decipher.

Some more possibilities-
Emil Parola (age 49) died 27 May 1942 Bronx- could be "Amil" in 1910 census.
William Parola (age 38) died 30 May 1936 Manhattan.
John Parola (age 35) died 11 Nov.1942 Kings Co.
Emily Parola m.6 Dec.1929 Manhattan to H.H.W Hansen.

Yup - that makes sense. Interestingly Emily is recorded as married in the 1930 Census but listed as "Parola"

Hi All,
Back from vacation and working on my search once again. The family was amazed at how many other children that Johanna had that we did not know about. It is definitely the family. I know it was mentioned that Emily married HHW Hansen in 1929. That was my Grandmother who married Valdemar Henry Hansen. I am not sure why he is listed as HHW Hansen unless he actually used another name. I cannot find immigration information on him since he jumped a boat coming over from Denmark. We believe he was born in Korsor 1900?. I can't find immigration on Valdemar Hansen or Johanna Vatkimen. I have searched but am afraid I will never find more information on my Grandfather. I know he came from a family of about 11 children but as far as we know, he was the only one that came over when he was about 16. Anyone know where I can look next?
