Probably asking for the impossible. Is there a online data base regarding convicts for Lutterworth workhouse?
Just wanting to know what Daniel Blockley did to be put in there? He shows in the 1861 census, and he died there as well in 1865.
I would also be most interested to see where his wife Mary Ann was in 1861 for some reason I have not tracked her down for this census, she was born abt 1808, Leire, died 1875.

Hi Suzie
What makes you think Daniel Blockley was a convict?
The Lutterworth Workhouse indexed we put together has Daniel Blockley as you say in the Worhouse in 1861. The other Blockley people shown are:
Ann Blockley Church of England born Broughton Astley 1883 (discharged from Workhouse)
Hannah Blockley C or E born Claybrook 1869 deceased
infant Blockley born Broughton Astley 1883 died
taken from the Religious Creeds Register Lutterworth Workhouse, in the CRO Wigston Leicestershire

Hi
The 1861 census states that he is a inmate, so one would presume he is a convict. (I was very wrong to say Convict, as I was working on two convicts at the time)
He also died there in 1865.
If he was without money, his wife would of been with him, but she wasn't. Unless the couple had parted. And Daniel fell upon hard times and took refuse in the workhouse.
The other Blockleys you said about I am not certain if they are related to him or not. Daniel was born in Broughton Astley like the others.
The Blockleys are not really a line I follow, it is his wifes side, and was curious to see what happened to this couple.
I am waiting to save some penny's to check the 1861 census for Mary Blockley (his wife) just to see where she was.

Hi Sue
Are you in NZ by the way, just returned from two months with my daughter there, second visit lovely country and great to avoid the snow and ice of England in the winter.
Back to Daniel Blockley
I have the 1861 census image for Daniel in the Lutterworth Workhouse, aged 59 a railway labourer born in Broughton Astley Leics.
I have an 1841 census for a Daniel Blockley aged 35 a lab and his wife Mary 30 lab both born in country. The 1841 census rounded the ages and also only indicated whether the person was born in country or not.
Daniel died in 1865
He married Mary Ann Tew on 5 February 1830 at Peter, Leicestershire.
The 1861 census for Leicester has a Mary Blockley aged 60 a grocer with her sister Sarah Starmer. I am sure you know all this already. If you want copies of the census let me know your e mail address. Lots of people have Daniel Blockley on their trees on Ancestry

Thank you very much. No I did not have the 1861 census details and very grateful for the new information, especially regarding her sister Sarah, as I had nothing on her.
Yes I live in the South Island of NZ. Still waiting on winter as we are still getting summer like days for May!! ;D.
Will send P.M for details about census.
Cheers
