Hello Kiwiceltic - I think that my husband's family are the family you are looking for. He was born in the Tarland area and several generations of his family were born and lived at Broombank, Tarland and this is in the same area as the Andersons you are looking for. The Slack is an area on the outskirts of Tarland and there are quite a few properties in that area. The other area you mention is actually called Migvie and it is at the other side of Tarland, beside Logie Coldstone, although they all border each other around this small village.
There are three distinct Anderson Families in the area, however they are also connected through marriage so they can be quite complicated to seperate, I'm still convinced that they are related to each other if we could just go that far back.
Would you like me to send you my database of Andersons?
-
Hello Dorothy2710,
My ANDERSONS also lived at Broombank, Tarland for many, many years & go way back.
My Grannie Mary was born there in 1906 & was the Granddaughter of George ANDERSON b, 1933 Logie Coldstone & Isabella ANDERSON (nee COUTTS) b. 1853 Auchindoir & Kearn. I'd be very interested to see your data base of Anderson's too if you don't mind.
I'll "Personnel Message" you my direct Email Address so that we can talk privately if that's okay & I look forward to hearing from you...............With Kind Regards.................SFA.

-

Dear Dorothy, my name is Anderson and I can trace my family back to John Anderson and Helen Webster of Tarland, and two John Andersons of Logie Coldstone, one married to Elizabeth McCombie, the other wife is unknown.
Do you have any more information about these families?
-
Hello, I am in Tarland now looking for my Ancestors that I believe come from this area. In particular I am searching for Jean Anderson who was the mother of Catherine Anderson born in Stonehaven in 1828 +/- 1 year. I think that Jean was married to Alexander Anderson. Have any of you heard of these people please?
-
EaglesHigh, IGI has a Catherine Gordon Anderson, parents Alexander Anderson and Jean Anderson, baptised 11 June 1827, Strathdon, Aberdeenshire.

My third great grandfather was Alexander Anderson, born about 1812. Some family records say he was born in Crathie, but others say Tarland. I happened on this list and wondered if anyone had information on him. I have found him on census records, but have not found a birth or christening records for him. Family tradition says his father was George Anderson and mother was Isabelle Simson. There may have been 2 siblings, George and Margaret. Any information him or his family would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Gaye

Is this Alexander and family here https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.2.1/M7LP-F8X
He died in Scotland it seems in 1868. Have you viewed his death cert to confirm his parents' details? If so, what did it say re his father's occuaption?
Monica
-
There is an Alexander Anderson baptised 8 Oct 1809 at Tarland & Migvie. The parents are Charles Anderson & Isobell Reid.
Added: There is also an Alexander Anderson baptised 10 Apr 1820 at Aberdeen. The parents are James Anderson & Isabella Simpson.

That is my Alexander Anderson, but I believe the death date is off. His son, also an Alexander, died on 2 April 1860 and the record says his father was deceased at the time. I always thought it was an interesting coincidence that both father and son died on April 2 eight years apart. Now I believe it was a transcription error in the family years ago. I am just having a hard time erasing the old information that so many family members have.
Thanks for any ideas you can give to find him with his parents. Family records suggest that he may have a brother, George, and a sister, Margaret. But I have no idea of the source of that information.

Those don't match the family story of his parents being George and Isabelle Simson....Does anyone know if there is a non-conformist church of some type? Is there any place else to look?
Thank you,
Gaye Willis

I am interested in contacting any direct Anderson Male descendants whom have done Y-DNA testing in Scotland but mostly my interest is in the Logie-Mar, Logie-Coldstone and Strathdon areas which would also include Tarland and Milgive, Aberdeenshire Scotland.
I am a believed descendant of 'Scot" Robert Anderson who was transported to the Colonies in America in 1716 after being captured in the 1715 Jacobite Uprising. During capture Robert Andeson stated he was from Logie-Mar. He has a believed brother Charles Anderson also captured stating he was from Logie.
For our Andersons Clan Y-DNA it is for only Anderson male direct descendants.
Y-DNA is only passed from and to the Male direct descendants. So only a direct Anderson male descendant can be successfully tested and matched with Y-DNA test. I have taken the Family Tree DNA Y-DNA 67 marker test with the result of R-CTS11722 (L1335 Pictish). I have also just completed the ScotlandDNA (based in Britain) Chromo 2 Y-DNA test. results: YDNA Haplogroup is R1b-S530 “Pictish” my subtype is R1b-S695.
If you are a Anderson male whom descends from these areas and have done DNA testing or you are interested in DNA for Anderson conformation genealogy please contact me.
Very Respectfully
Ray Anderson

Hello Ray - leave it with me for a couple of days so that I can look through the names peoperly.
Logie Mar and Logie Coldstone are not the same place, and Logie and Coldstone would have been two separate communities in the early 1800s. As far as I can remember Logie Mar would have been nearer Braemar than the Tarland area.
I'll give it some thought and check my records before I come back to you.

Hello Kiwiceltic,
I'm not sure how old this thread is, but its apparent that we are related. My GGG Grandparents were William and Barbara Anderson (m. April 11, 1807 Logie Coldstone).
My late Uncle compiled a very thorough database. If you're still following this thread please let me know and I will pass any info I have. My Grandmother emigrated to Canada after WWI so there are many desçendants throughout Canada. I will be travelling to Logie Coldstone in a few months and am hoping to contact any relatives in the area.

Thank you.
