As you can see, the quality is deterorating, but it gets worse.
Can anyone help me with this section, please?

Hmm, that is pretty horrible but I think I can make this read "predecessors and kindred, if she"
maybe he's suggesting that Alice let her sisters have a bigger share/all of their mother's clothes in return for something??
