Just received marriage cert for gt's x 3. 1849, Roman Catholic Chapel of St Peter, Cobridge.
Does anyone have info/pictures of St Peter's?
Be much obliged for anything, it's not essential of course - but would be interesting to know the place.
The happy couple were from Burslem, is that near or did they travel a bit?

Thanks Carole
I found that one earlier, looks a bit depressing. Was hoping for prettier pictures I suppose.
I'll keep trying.

Church records will be on fiche in Hanley library and at Stafford Archives and probably Lichfield Archives which also hold the Bishop's transcipts and wills.
They do seem to have picked the worse aspects of the church to photograph. There is a second church very close by but I don't know if that is the catholic church or CofE. Cobridge is roughly equal distance between Burslem and Hanley and in 1849 was where the pottery owners tended to live. Even today the grandness of the houses is evident, even though quite dilapidated.

thankyou for the reply zen rabbit. i live in new zealand so access in person to some archives is a tad difficult! most of the records you mention on those sites have been transferred to FINDMYPAST which is not showing anything for me. they are also mostly anglican records too. i have found that the records from the church are held at the BIRMINGHAM DIOCESAN ARCHIVES. i found they have these registers. is anyone out there who is in a position to go there for me? i can give more details if so. much appreciated. thankyou in anticipation.

A snippet from the local paper.
"St Peter's, on Waterloo Road, Cobridge, dates back to the 1930s and there has been a Christian church on the site since the late eighteenth century."
Looks like your ancestors were married in an early St Peters..
