Seeking information on Mathias Oleary who married Johanna Lumberg  Limerick Ireland they had a daughter Elizabeth Mary O'leary born 3.11.1839 Limerick.unfortunatly no town in Limerick mentioned they came to Australia on the "Enmore" possibly on the 1841 Voyage .Reference has been made in family documents they were related to Daniel O'Connell, the great Irish Liberator.

Hello William,

There are three items you require when searching for Irish ancestors.

1. Denomination.
2. Parish
3. Townland.

You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.

The ancestors you mention are possibly the following ones on the passenger list for the 1841 voyage of the Enmore to Port Phillip Australia they are shown as - Mathew Leary Age 32, Johanna Leary Age 33, Johanna Leary Age 5 and Betty (Elizabeth) Leary Age 1 see
