My family tree is filling up nicely :)
however I seem to have quite a few entries where I have found birth details, sometimes even baptism or marriage details but am struggling with dates of death. Most are Liverpool all are Lancashire but it seems much of Liverpool hasn't been transcribed on Lancashire BMD.
What does anyone suggest about tracing people at the end of their lives? I have traced some and even managed to find and visit some graves but feel I must be missing some resources somewhere ???

If you're still in the timescale for civil registration then try freebmd.
It's much more difficult finding deaths/burials as there's no rule of thumb for when people die. Baptisms and marriages you can have a reasonable guess at but not deaths.
Again, if you're still working with census returns then you can narrow the time down to a 10 year period when they 'disappear' but be careful as sometimes they can reappear ten years further on ::)

yes I've been caught out like that!
sometimes I've dropped lucky with a match, easier with less common names but with the more common ones I'm really struggling and it would be too expensive to send for certs for all possible matches
Thanks :)

Ancestry have now indexed all deaths up to 2005 but you require a subscription for that facility
FindMyPast have the full GRO index online - again by subscription
The GRO index is available for free at your nearest main library
GRO index from 1837 to the mid - 1860's does not show the age at death so if you are searching for a fairly common surname - it can be difficult narrowing the search
From the late 1860's - the ages are shown alongside the entry
As Christine says - you need to ensure they are not on the next census and then search that 10yrs period in between

If it's any consolation I still have a few who are walking this earth aged 250 and more!
Well, perhaps not but my records say they are ;D

Hi
feel I must be missing some resources somewhere
Best resource is on here ;D ;D ;D If you post any you are stuck on, there is bound to be someone on here who can find them. They rarely fail.

hi
thanks
I do have a subscription to ancestry but it always brings up thousands of matches no matter how much i try to narrow it down
-
;D yes i think mine seem to have found the secret of longevity!! ;D
I never thought of posting individual details here I'll print my tree off and give it a go
thanks :)

You'll have a better chance of success if you post your queries on the relevant counties boards. There's more local knowledge available there.

Sounds as though you are using Ancestry's dreadful "new" search facility instead of the old one
-
can I use the old one?
I noticed when I used ancestry in the library one day it was much better!!
-
Difficult to give instructions because I don't know how you are using Ancestry. I will send you a pm and try to resolve it for you off the board

thank you :)
