Other than "Andrew" this seems to tally with the following family. (Perhaps the "Andrew" is a mis-transcription and is in fact "Peter"). Peter Burt (b1818 Dunfermline d1888 Oregon) married Margaret Beveridge (b1819 Dunfermline) in Dunfermline in 1839. Their children Agnes, Isabella Spowart, Margaret, Thomas Peter and Peter were born in Fife. A daughter Catherine was born in Ohio 1854. Peter b1818 was the son of Peter Burt (b.1795 Dunfermline d1844 Kelty) and Isobel Spoward or Spowart (b1792 Dunfermline d1856 in Ohio) married 1817 in Dunfermline. Can't go further back with the Burts but can take Spowarts back several generations.

I remember a Mr. Burt who had a little bookshop in Kirkcaldy in the late 60s, when I worked at Fife County Library HQ there.

Do you have the name of the ship the Burts and Beveridges were on?
On April 2, 1852, Joseph Burt, his wife Helen Kirk Hutchison , their children, Peter Hutchison, Robert Hutchison, Isabel Kirk, and Joseph Hutchison, along with Josephs mother, Isabell Spowart and her younger children, Isabel, David, Andrew, and Thomas left Greenock quay Scotland for New York. Six weeks later they arrived in New York.
They spent one night in New York then boarded a train to Tamaqua, Penn. where they were met by Josephs brother Peter Burt.
Peter Burt and his wife Margaret Beveridge & children were already in the states. I have been trying to find the dates Peter and Margaret immigrated to the states.

Thank you Beansgram for the information. Yes I am interested in any photos or documents you may have about the families-Burts, Beveridges, etc.

I just found "The Statira Morse" ships list last week and my immediate thought was that it was a mistranscription and that the Andrew Burt listed as age 34 was in fact Peter Burt - husband of Margaret (Beveridge) Burt age 33 as all the other Burt names and ages matched my records.
Peter Burt had a brother David who I had been told immigrated with Peter's mother and brothers and sisters, but David does not show on their immigration on the "Champion" April 30, 1852.
So I am thinking the David on "The Statira Morse" must be him.
This is my first day on RootsChat and so don't know how it works - but Bones mentioned having pictures and I am wondering how I contact her about getting copies?

Thanks for the welcome. I have been enjoying the posts I am reading.
I forgot to say on my original post re: the ship "The Statira Morse" arriving in NY -- that I read on the posts and interpreted as the Euphemia Burt listed is really probably Euphemia Beveridge - therefore my thinking that Andrew Burt is really Peter Burt is further enhanced.

hi llrieks
one more reply and you will be able to pm beans.
i don't have any connection to the burts that i know of, but my grandsons tree has beveridge.

Peter Burt married Margaret Beveridge. They ended up in Oregon, but I think all of her brothers that came over stayed in Pennsylvania.
-
Margarets brother James and his wife Euphemia Hynd beveridge settled in allegheny county pennsylvania their 2 oldest children were born before they left scotland Alexander and james. Agnes and john were born in pennsylvania.
James beveridge is buried in Salem Cemetery in Pine Township Allegheny County Pennsylvania I have not been able to find where his wife is buried. She is not on our 1900 census so I assume she died before 1900 Beans

I have been researching Isabell(a) Spowart Burt McArthur of New Era, Oregon. My grandmother passed down some quilts made by Isabell and a very large portrait of her as well. I have recently had the quilts looked at by a quilt historian, the main fabrics are from the 1820-1900. Some of the cloth (black ones) were mourning cloth, some probably other clothing. They are beautiful quilts with no signs of wear. They were made for my grandmother, Veda Alice Brown Schroeder. I would be happy to post pictures, but I am not sure how to do it on this site.

I need to make a correction on the dates of the fabrics in the quilts mentioned above. The correct dates are 1880-1900 in one of the quilts. The other quilts are in the 1920's to late 1930's range.
-
No the Andrew is Andrew Burt and the Peter is Peter Burt 2 different people. Peter Burt came over before the rest of his family. The Andrew is Peter's brother. All of this has been verified. Beans

Hello All, Noticed the posts on the Burts, Beveridge and McArthur line. I am also researching these. David Elmer McArthur and wife Isabella Spowart Burt were my 2nd Great Grandparents.
As with Nathan Haines I am also in the Agnes Mary McArthur Haines line. He has helped me a great deal with piecing the Burts and Beveridge together in America.
It's always great to see other family members doing research on our family line. Elaine
