I am trying to find information on Annie BROOKS, my GGrandmother.
I have only been able to find her estimated DOB at 9 Jul 1854 from the Census of 1891, and her marriage to George STOPPS at Watlington in 1874.
Her death I think was between 1920 -30.
I have searched Ancestry and LDS IGI but no success
Can anyone help with more information?
Many Thanks

You have posted on the General board so no clues as to what county she was born in
Have you found them on the 1881 census? Where was she born?
Do you have her marriage cert - what was her fathers name and occupation
Her death I think was between 1920 -30.
Have you checked freebmd as transcriptions cover to the early 1930's - I can see one in 1923
Have you checked the 1911 census for info

Annie I think was born in Shirburn.
I don't have the marriage certificate.
How do you search freeBMD as transscripts? I am relatively new at this, I cannot find her in the Census of 1881.
I cannot see the census of 1911 in Ancestry, how do you find it

1881 shows birthplace was Shirburn Oxford
There is a June qtr 1854 birth on freebmd for an Ann Brooks in Thame which was the registration district for Shirburn
I have only been able to find her estimated DOB at 9 Jul 1854 from the Census of 1891, and her marriage to George STOPPS at Watlington in 1874.
How did you arrive at 9th July 1854 from a census and marriage entry?

Sorry the information came from my brother in the UK, dont remember how he got it.
How do you search the 1911 census in Ancestry? How do I get into freeBMD, I am in Australia.

On both the 1881 and 1891 census she gives her birthplace as Oxford Shirburn
Ancestry does not have the 1911 census - it is only available on a strictly pay per view basis http://www.1911census.co.uk/search/tnaform.aspx but there is a free index
How do you search freeBMD as transscripts?
You cannot get a transcript from freebmd - it only gives you the reference number plus quarter and year in which the event took place. You have to buy a copy of the certificate using that reference to get further info http://freebmd.rootsweb.com

Carole,
Many thanks for the information - looks like I might have to pay for more information

If she is the Annie with George STOPPS at Shippon, Berks in 1891, her birthplace is given as Shirburn, Oxfordshire. Same as in 1881 and 1901.
There is only one Ann BROOKS born in that area on FreeBMD that I can see and that is Jun qtr 1854, Thame, 3a 499. Shirburn comes under the Thame registration district.
Possibility in 1861
Shirburn Village

1871
Ann BROOKS, servant unm 16, Domestic servant, born Oxon, Shirborne
in household of William H DAVEY and family, the Vicar of Aston Rowant, Oxfordshire

Aston Rowant is given as the place of birth for George STOPPS, which is where he was in 1871, with his parents Abraham and Mary - RG10/1430/31/5 - a couple of houses away from the Vicarage where Ann was.

1851
Shirburn
Thomas BROOKS, head wid 54, Gardener, born Oxfordshire, Shirburn
Joseph BROOKS, son unm 22, Cordwainer, born ditto
Elen BROOKS, dau unm 14, born ditto
HO107/1726/105/4
There are four marriages in the Thame district for a Thomas BROOKS 1852-1853. Two of them have an Ann as the possible bride, Ann ING or Ann RUSSELL, but you would need to get your Ann's birth certificate to see which one it is.
