Does anyone know if a house in Ripple still exist can't see it on googlemaps called Ripple Court or possibly called Ripple Manor! I believe the village is near Deal.
Cheers
-
Ripple is off the Dover to Deal road behind Ringwould.
There is a big house there where years ago they held Ripple Garden Fete that I and my children walked to when we lived in Kingsdown.
Am presuming this is the house you are looking for, but am not sure.

-
Are you interested in the Sladens? Message me if you need more information.
-
Can't remember much about the house just extensive gardens. But there are a number of big houses in Ripple.
I hope to be there in a few weeks and can take a pic.

Searching the Internet for "Ripple Court" throws up a few results but no photographs :-\ Even Images of England does not have a photo but it does have a brief history of the building.
By searching Google maps for "Ripple Court" Deal you can get a satellite view.

i've looked and found the house too :) thanks everyone!

John Baken Sladen lived at Ripple Court in the early 19th century. His second son was Charles Sladen who was the 6th Premier of Victoria, Australia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Sladen. In the late 19th century F.W.L. Sladen lived there. http://bumbleboosters.unl.edu/sladen.shtml.

Thank-you for the links i wasn't aware of F.W.L Sladen. do you have a connection with the sladen family?
-
found this while searching for ripple court on the net.
my family has link to the Sladens in the 1700's and i would like to know a bit more about them from that time
-
Hi Bean,
i wish i was able to help you.....i know the Sladen family used the surname Banks as a middle name because of this connection. the guy in the middle of my profile picture had an uncle called Joseph Banks Sladen and then he called his son after him. They used the surname St Barbe a lot too.
it would seem a popular way of naming children of this period, especially with my scottish family tree. Although the sladen family are english i haven't seen this with my husband's who are also english.
Just wondering if anyone has come across this pattern of naming children as well?
-
i have a: Joseph Sladen Banks, John Sladen Marsh Banks, Edward Henry Sladen Banks, Elizabeth Sladen Banks (married Joseph St Barbe Sladen) and a Sarah Anne Sladen Banks so the arrangement obviously went both ways!!
Their father, Lawrence Banks of Boys Hall, married 3 Sladen cousins, Anne Sladen, Ann Harvey and their mother Sarah Sladen third.
-
Hi Bean,
Do you know what the Banks family did for a living? and do you know about the Sladen family?
I was always told that the Sladen's were a military family but don't know how they had money or what they did prior to this.
-
trail gets a bit confused before Lawrence Banks - two different options!
i'm afraid i don't know too much more about the sladen family but typing
sladden slodden into google will produce a link with a lot of info.
-
Hi,
yeah found the same link by accident - it took me a while to realise that this was the same family.
i also have some wills but don't think they mention Banks. I will have another look at it. have you looked at wills relating to Banks?
-
just managed to prove the link between Richard Banks of Kington and Lawrence Banks of Boys Hall to my satisfaction, was only rumour previously.
I have looked at some wills for the banks family from that era and i know that Lawrences will mentions his children by his third wife but didn't mention his earlier children hence my hunt for proof of the link.

My great grandfather was F.W.L Sladen of Ripple Court. I am looking into our family history regarding beekeeping as i plan to buy a farm in the next couple of years and would probably be interested in keeping bees. Is there still a Sladen living at Ripple Court? My Grandfather Rudolph Sladen lived in Ottawa, Ont, Canada and my father Richard Sladen lives in Whistler, BC, Canada. I live in Victoria, BC, Canada and if I have any family living close by, I should like to know. Thanks, Trevor
-
Hello I have Frederick W L Sladen marrying Henrietta Barton and having two sons Charles and Rudolph. Rudolph married Elizabeth Ball and had two children Richard and Valerie. Have you got a copy of FWL Sladen's book?
-
My father Richard Sladen has the original manuscript for "The Humble Bee".
-
Richard Sladen married Danielle Kochanowski and has 2 sons, Trevor Sladen (me), and Kevin Sladen. I am engaged to Christie Wilson and we have a daughter Marina Kai Sladen.
Valerie Sladen married Ron Jackson and have 2 kids, Ryan Jackson and Kim Jackson
-
Thanks Trevor, I am in touch with your Aunt Valerie and my father remembers your grandfather Rudolph. Contact me via PM for more information. Matthew

(RIPPLE COURT) ...My ancestors came to Jamestown, Va. with Captain John Smith, 1607 and Captain Daniel Gookin, 1640, from England, specifically... Ripple Court, Kent England. Family names can be found on bronze plaques on walls of 'The Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Kent England (so I've been told- trying to find a picture of that). I have photographed family names on the plaques in the 'Jamestown Memorial Church, Jamestown Island, Va. - Gookin, West, Spencer,
A family member visited our 'roots' - Ripple Court, in 1973. She met a lovely family that lived in Wickhambreaux, England, that showed her around. I have a wonderful photo of an estate but do not know if its Ripple Court, or Wickhambreaux... In all my research, I get conflicting information of the original buildings, whether all there or not... Would anyone have more information? I would be greatly appreciative. ... And I may have some information that could also help you. Thank you,
-
There are in fact two Ripple Courts in Kent, one near Ashford and the other near Deal. It is the one near Deal that the Gookins originated from. One building from the Gookin era still survives, but the current house was built by John Baker Sladen. I've sent you a PM.

I would be extremely interested in locating this on Google Earth or whatever. I have been frustrated in figuring out which is which, and my nearest contact is in Canterbury.
I have a YDNA test going to the lab, from a descendant here in America, and am hoping to find one in Old Blighty who has a result, or is interested in getting one. We are months away from this first result on Family Tree DNA.
Anyone anywhere who is a direct male descendant is encouraged to contact the Project, especially known lines from British and continental Europeans.

Failed to mention: our results can also be viewed via the Guild of One Name Studies website - Slaton page. We recognize the many (over 30) spelling variants, but Slaton in INDEX will get you there, whether your interest is Sladen, Slatton, etc
