Amongst the papers of my late aunt, Mary (but known as Maureen) McKernan, I have found a birth certificate in the name of Alastair Edward Hyde, son of Charles Hyde Villiers and Victoria Alexandrina Innes-Ker, born 3rd November, 1905 at 1 Great Cumberland Place, and a marriage certificate from 27th October, 1938 for Alastair Edward Hyde Villiers and Gaudencio Ysobel Fraser-Luckie.
Is anyone able to shed any light on who these people were and why my aunt might have had them in her possession?

Here's a bit about him but doesn't explain connection to your relative-

What was your aunt's occupation- could that be a clue?

Thanks for that.
My aunt was a nurse and did, I believe, undertake some private nursing, although I cannot see why she should have wanted to obtain these certificates if these people were merely in her care at some time.

Could she have cared for some of the family and been left some pictures or papers or books and these were with them?

I suppose that's possible. It would appear that I'm going to have to come up with some more information about my aunt in order to get to the bottom of this.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Do you have her birth dates, how old was she when he was born?

Hi,
Are you still looking for information about the Hyde Villiers family. I may be able to assist.

Lt.-Col. Alastair Edward Hyde Villiers was the son of Lt.-Col. Charles Hyde Villiers and Lady Victoria Alexandrina Innes-Ker. He married Gaudencia Isabel Fraser-Luckie, daughter of E. G. Fraser-Luckie and Guadencia Iglesias.
His parents lived at Folly Court, Wokingham, Berkshire. Both are buried in the churchyard of St. Paul's on Reading Road. Lady Alexandrina was a god-daughter of Queen Victoria and direct cousin of Winston Churchill.
How's that for starters? Can you tell me anything else about him or any other members of his family?

Thanks very much for that.
You seem to know a lot more about him than I do, but I still don't know why my aunt would have been interested in this family.
Thanks again.

Hi,
I just came across this old thread. I can't answer the question how Mary McKernan happened to come into the possession of the birth and marriage records but I'd be very interested to hear from anyone else researching this Villiers family.
Regards,
Chris
