Title: Sladen family - Rhydoldog
Post by: hellywelly on Saturday 10 April 10 14:33 BST (UK)
I am related to the Sladen family of Rhydoldog Rhayader but i believe they were originally from Kent.  Ramsey Sladen was born in Folkestone 1782 and went to India.  does anybody have more information??  My great great great grandad was William Dare Sladen his son born in India but it would seem we are the poorer relations as his son John William Frank Ramsey Sladen lived in Glasgow and was not an officer in the Army which seems strange as all his family members are all officers.

His army records show that he appears to have married
E M Keane in Perth 3/11/1884 maybe thats why he settled in Glasgow. On army records next of kin is his brother Henry.
Maybe you can work out the story from those
He was appointed to Lance Sgt 22/5/1886

Hi, I have just found your post on J. W. F. R. Sladen. He is my great great grandfather. I traced our family back to his arrival in Scotland from India. My grandmother remembers that there could have been some scandal about his return from India. Something to do with a woman! He may have hooked up with servant from big house. Possibly wife Ellen? Had no idea he came from this kind of background. Anyway would you be interested in sharing your research on family in India and before? Yours in anticipation, Jane Ramsay
