Title: COMPLETED - George Forbes THOMPSON - Tiverton, Devon born 1789-1792
Post by: nugget on Thursday 08 April 10 10:07 BST (UK)
Hi, If anyone can help to look up the birth/christening of George Forbes Thompson who was supposedly born in Tiverton around 1790 to 1792 according to his age and place of birth on the 1851 Census.
I have searched the IGI and found a Christening on the 29 Nov 1789 Saint Paul Covent Garden in Westminster London and in this case his parents were quoted as John and Judith Thompson. Can't say for sure that these are the same fellow but the time of birth is about right and the name being slightly unique, is a good match too.
It would be nice to confirm if our George Forbes was born in Tiverton and perhaps also christened there in which case our Westminster fellow is out of the race.
It is possible that the family may have moved about a bit as George was a Military man and  I guess his father may also have been.
Any info that can be found would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Richard

He wasn't baptised in Tiverton. His baptism & death are both recorded in London.

Thanks  for looking DOB7. Got me curious as to why he would put Tiverton on the Census. A mistake perhaps, but a rather specific one? I did notice on the census that the head of the previous household was born in St Paul Covent Gardens. Probably transcribed incorrectly by Enumerator. That would make sense.

Thanks again
Richard

Or he was born in Tiverton (perhaps his mother's home, or the father was stationed there) and then baptised and raised in London?
