Title: Henry Farrel
Post by: dutyofficer on Wednesday 07 April 10 03:35 BST (UK)
Can anybody help. I'm looking for a Henry Farrell.  In 1832 he has a daughter Frances born in Louth, Lincs.  When Frances marries in 1860 (Rodman) Henry is shown on the certificate as dead.  Can't locate him or Frances on any census.

Thanx
Peter

Hi Pam
Yes I saw that one and I think it is probably the right one but I can't find the father.  LDS  lists aFrances to a Ann and Michael Farrell however I have a marriage certificate for a Frances Farrell (born Louth 1832) with father Henry.  most confusing.

Marriage 17 Oct 1825 at Louth
Michael FARRELL to Ann PAWSON

I doubt Fanny ever knew her father-
Burial
14 Dec 1833 at Louth, Michael FARRELL (49)
21 Oct 1847, Ann FARRELL (56)

Thanks Geoff
I noticed that on the 1841 census there is a Ann farrell with her children who include Fanny, and also an Edward Pawson age 20. However there is listed a Henry Farrell age 6 which means he was born circa 1835 so if Michael died in 1833 who is the father of Henry.

regards
Peter

Henry was christened just a year after Michael's death http://tinyurl.com/yzoko3t

Interesting middle name.  Although I suspect it's a bad transcription of something else.

I should add that the National Burial Index has no Henry FARRELL in Lincs in the relevant period.

Here are some them in 1851;

1851 Census
Prospect Court.
Louth, Lincolnshire
HO107/2111/291/12

Edward PAWSON, 31, Head, Mar, bricklayer (journeyman) born Louth
Hannah, 29, Wife, Mar, born Binbrook
Henrietta, 11, Daughter, born Louth
Charles FARRELL, 21, Brother in law, Unm, Groom, born Louth
Henry FARRELL, 16, Brother in law, Unm, Scholar, born Louth
+ 4 Humberstons as visitors including a Fanny aged 21

So Edward Pawson was staying with the Farrells in 1841

Very complicated family!

That was why I chose the 1825 marriage :) I presumed he was Ann's son.

Marriage 25 Dec 1850 Louth
Edward PAWSON (no father) to Hannah ROWSON (dau of John)

Well I was a bit slower Geoff ;D
Yes agree Marriage never took place til 1850. But where is Henrietta from 1851 Census in 1841 then. A daughter of Hannah Rowson?
I had already typed below so we are on the same page.

There are a couple of Trees that have come to the conclusion from the 1851 Census that Hannah was nee Farrell.
I dont think so .
I think that Charles and Henry are half brothers of Edward Pawson
That works with Michael and Ann marrying 1825 that Geoff E found

As Frances/Fanny would never have known her Father well she may have misnamed him on her Marriage Cert.
She also got around in 1851 she seems to be a Servant in Hull, Yorks
HO107/2363/965/1 and then marries Joseph RODMAN in Pancras Sept 1860 Reg.

Very interesting ... but a little confusing.  My records show Frances (born 1832)as the daughter of Michael and Ann Farrell.  I am the great great grandaughter of Charles Farrell - brother to James/Frances/Henry.

Hi Geoff, Trish, Effie and Pam,
Thanks for all your help with this one.
Could it be that Edward Pawson is the brother of Ann, or is the consensus that he is her child?

Also on LDS Frances is shown as Frances Birch Farrell so strange middle names seem to be common in that family.

Effie if your related to Frances through Charles, then we are some sort of distant relations.  Do you have much information on the Farrell clan.

This may well be related in some way to the 1785 marriage at South Cockerington,
John PAWSON to Frances BIRCH

By the coincidence of the PAWSON/BIRCH Mrriage Geoff found I think that Ann was their daughter but am unable to prove it.
The Edward Pawson baptism I found is very early compared to Edwards age on Census entries but must be connnected. He also names no Father on his Marriage Cert so is very likely to be illegitimate.

There is also a James Farrell Marriage 1826 in Louth and I will see if I can find him in later Census to find his POB as he could be a Brother of Michael.

As we have no 1851 Census for Michael and Ann we have no POB for them.

Hi Effie,
Excuse my manners. Welcome to Rootschat :)
Just one question;
Does Charles name his Father as Michael on his Marriage Cert and deceased?

Hi Peter:  I am new on this so please have patience with me.  I do not have any certificates that go that far back but my grandfather Henry Farrell born in West Barkwith, Louth, Lincolnshire in 1869 was the son of Charles Farrell and Ann (Brown) -

Charles father was Michael Farrell from Binbrook, Lincolnshire and brother to Henry.  Shown with the Pawsons on the 1851 Census.  I thought that they were Hannah's brothers and 'brother-in-law' to the Head of the household - Edward Pawson.

My notes indicate that Hannah was born about 1816 and died in 1870 - not sure if this is accurate.  In both the census of 1851/1861 they were living at Prospect Court, Louth, Lincolnshire.

Census ages - 29 in 1851, 40 in 1861 - suggest a later birthdate (I agree death in 1870 aged 54 suggests rather earlier though).
However, there was an 1816 baptism in Binbrook http://tinyurl.com/y2chfzm

Geoff, Trish, Effie, Pam
I have been away from the computer for a few days, thank you all for your help with Frances, I think the evidence points to her being my gal. More work to do.
Thanks

Peter :D
