Title: Buried in Rumney?
Post by: Fue on Tuesday 06 April 10 22:15 BST (UK)
Hi

This is most likely a simple question but my G Grandfather, William Charles Williams lived and died (1894) in Rumney  so is most likely buried there also. Where/how could I find out for definate  where is actual grave is?

Thanks

It was known as C of E back then, I think C of Wales came into use much later.  I will go check with a friend who lives in Rumney area and ask her about C of E/W churches in the area.  Get back to you as soon as I have the info ...

Hi Scrumhalf and eac61, many thanks for your interest

I did visit the Glamorgan Records office but it was only a day visit (I live near Banbury) and by the time I had found them in their new premises, there was little time to really search.  The records office was also very different from all the others I have visited with actually little references on show, you had to ask for most things and they would go off and bring them to you.  I would hasten to add they were very helpful though.

Anyway, I have now to resort to the internet so am hoping some kind sole has access to such records as burial records etc.?

Hi

Checked with a friend, there is a church with a graveyard in St Mellons aptly called St Mellons Parish Church:St Mellons Vicarage, Church Lane, St Mellons, Cardiff. CF3 5UP 029 2079 6560 - this is very close to Rumney, there is also another church in St Augustines, in Church Road, Rumney Cardiff CF3 3BA

Hope this is of help

you visited the new record office which is in the process of being digitalized hence the reason why you have to request everything - in the old office (which I preferred) you could go and look through all the books yourself.  In time I think you will be able to go to Glam record office and look at all the records via computer.

Hi EAC

Many thanks for the info on St Mellons graveyard, I will certainly give them a call  :)

As for the new records office, yes I am sure things will improve but I would miss 'ye olde' fiche reader (many happy hours spent on those things!).
