G'day all.
Looking for any pre-emigration info on the WALLIS family of Blackwall, London. The family includes:
father - Thomas, born c.1807 (known occupations - labourer/lime burner/bullock driver)
mother - Sarah (nee ALLEN), born c. 1800
son - Richard, born c. 1826
daughter - Mary Ann, born 23 Nov 1828 (my gt-gt-gt-grandma)
son - Thomas, born c. 1829
daughter - Jessie, born before 1835
They were residing in Blackwall before they emigrated to South Australia in 1837. It is possible they are Cornish in origin. It is also possible that Sarah is Thomas's second wife, as there seem to be referemnces to a Mary Ann BLACKMORE as being his wife. Nonetheless, Sarah was the wife was registered as receiving a free passage to Adelaide aboard the Navarino.
any clues gratefully received
cheers

The Banns between Thomas Wallis and Sarah Allen were called on the 29 May 1825 at Saint Dunstan and All Saints Church, Stepney, Tower Hamlets, Middlesex.
Thomas a bachelor, Sarah spinster.
This is the Banns not the marriage so no other information.

The marriage took place in the same church on the 10 July 1825.
No mention of parents' names.Bah!!
The witnesses were somebody Price (I can't even make a guess) and A Duffield?
Thomas made his mark and Sarah signed - very neat little signature.

Thamks for that , crisane. takes me one step closer.

Hi.
The area of Blackwall was/ is in the County Borough of Poplar in the East End of London.
The County Borough of Poplar was changed to the Borough of Tower Hamlets
some years ago.
The East India and West India's docks were built many years after your family
the left area.
They could have boarded their ship in the River Thames which could have been accessed via a boat by any boatman plying his trade along the Thames.
The area of Poplar was bombed during WW2 and loss of life was high.
And starting around 1948 a high percentage of the residents opted to move out and away from the area--many to the areas in Essex--others Emigrated.

Hi Nudge
Do you have the names of Thomas's (and Sarah's) parents from their death certificates?
Might help in finding their births or baptisms.
