Title: Patrick b.1873 and Mary Butler
Post by: jen1984 on Monday 05 April 10 15:10 BST (UK)
Hi, just trying to trace some ancestors - Patrick (b.1873) and Mary Butler who in 1911 were living in York Road, Kingstown (no.1?)  Dublin.
Their son Thomas Joseph was my Grandfather and moved over to England sometime between 1911 and 1934.
Would really appreciate any info on where they lived or any tips on finding relavant sites with information on anything about their ancestors or what happened to them between 1911 and my grandad emigrating to england.

Kind regards Jenna

York road is just inland from the main street in Kingstown (Dun Laoghaire) - see Google Map George's St to York Road (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=York+Rd,+Dun+Laoghaire,+County+Dun+Laoghaire-Rathdown,+Ireland&daddr=Dun+Laoghaire,+Co.+Dun+Laoghaire-Rathdown,+Ireland&geocode=FQUqLQMd0UKi_ykTKeH-nQhnSDFwh50zdeqm9Q%3BFfAsLQMdJl-i_yklTEg1JAZnSDGYEETB1f6q8w&hl=en&mra=cc&dirflg=w&sll=53.292387,-6.139984&sspn=0.005656,0.018132&ie=UTF8&z=16)

It appears from the census building returns that York road was residential, and therefore presumably Patrick had his own workshop (or was employed) at a different location. He is listed at no 15 in Thom's directory of 1914. I will have search for him in later directories to see if there are any other listings..

See the following link for details on searching for civil registrations which may help find details on the family :  2 Minute Introduction to Irish Records (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,442233.0.html) The registration district for that section of county Dublin is Rathdown.

here's a link to the Census page - Butler family, York Rd, Dun Laoghaire (http://census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Dublin/Kingstown_No__1/York_Road__Part_of/99163/)

15 York road, Kingstown is in Tenements in 1922

there's a W J Butler at number 36, a very upmarket house with a valuation nearly 4 times that of number 15

no mention of Bulter's at that address in other directories :

1904

15 York Rd - Mr William Weafer

1927

  14/15 York Rd - tenements

1938

  9-18 York Rd - demolished

In 1914 there's a Butler in a nearby street, in a similar type of trade :

  9 Mulgrave Street - J. Butler - tinplate worker
