Title: 1851 census sheffield
Post by: yoyo on Wednesday 23 March 05 15:00 GMT (UK)
I understand that Sheffield archives have a census index for the Sheffield area for the 1851 census.  Could anyone possibly look up Alexander Donaldson in this index and let me have a page ref.  He was born Scotland about 1832 and I believe he was lodging in Sheffield at this time.  I would be extremely grateful.

Hi Ticker
Thanks for asking.  I still haven't found Alexander in 1851 - he may or may not be in Sheffield but I know he married there mid 1850's.  He was originally from somewhere in Scotland.

Hi Yoyo

The best I can come up with is

1851
HO107/2281
Ripon
Markington
Folio 587  Page 3

Name   Relation   Condition   Age   Occupation   Where Born
Alexander Donaldson   Head      25   Market Gardener   Scotland
John Young   Servant      21   Under Gardener   Scotland

Best wishes

Hi Ticker
Afraid its not the right person - my Alexander was a tailor, and a very elusive one at that  - not only does he appear from nowhere, he then disappears again 15 years later, leaving behind wife & kids!
Thanks for trying,
Julia
