Hi,
Can any one advise how I could find the location of my family graves in St Columb Major. I know from my father his (May) Aunts are all buried in a row and the graves date around 1916 - 1920, and his grandfather Richard James May is also buried there somewhere.
I am based in Hampshire, and so at present can not come to Cornwall, so wondered if there is someway I can get a burial plan for the Cemetery etc.
Any help gratefully received.

Hi Janet,
I can't help with cemetery layout but I can help with burials.
Looking at 1916 - 1920 I see
MAY Mary Jane 20 Feb 1917 - aged 60 of Workhouse
and these two look like sisters
MAY Winifred Miners 23 Feb 1917 aged 12 of Fore St St Col
MAY Beatrice Mary 28 Jan 1918 aged 11 of Fore St St Col
going a little further looks like yet another sister
MAY Violet 10 Jul 1922 aged 24 of Fore St st Col
Cheers Kris :)

There is an MI for a Richard James MAY but it is in Cuby with Tregony not St Columb Major.
Looking at the 1901 census I see Richard James b Cuby with Trgony is the father of Violet so perhaps the person you are after.
MAY Richard James died 14 July 1946 aged 78
I do not see MI's listed for the 3 girls buried in St Columb Major..
Cheers Kris :)

There was a group baptism 25 July 1908 St Columb Major parents Richard James and Sarah Jane MAY
MAY Margaret Lilian
MAY Beatrice Mary
MAY Winifred Miners
MAY Sarah
father police constable, residence Police Station St Col
also this baptism to same couple on 26 March 1910 (Easter Eve)
MAY Richard John Bernard of Fore St St Col father Bill [poster]?
Cheers Kris :)

Thank Kris for the prompt reply as always.
The 3 sisters are mine, Violet, Beatrice and Winifred.
Any sign of a Pearl Gwendoline or a Dorothy May being buried in St Columb as well again around 1918.
Richard James May, died 1933, so the Cuby burial is not him.
Baptisms are correct - all my fathers Aunts and Uncles. He recalls going to St Columb and being shown the graves, so at least your records confirm this part of his memory.
Richard James May and Richard John Bernard ( son) were both town Criers for St Columb.
I will contact the local council to see if they can help with grave plans. Managed to get some great help from the people who look after St Columb Minor graveyard so fingers crossed.
Thanks
Janet

No sign of Dorothy - There is a Dorothy J 0 years mar 1/4 1916 in FreeBMD but no buruial listed in St Col Major
MAY Richard James 21 Nov 1933 aged 61 of Fore St St Col
unfortunately as no MIs are listed I presume there are no stones.
