Lincolnshire County Council archive shows an Edward Broxholme (in some lists spelt Broxholm) of Welton Le Wold (which is near Wragby) who was convicted of "Stealing boots, shoes and other items from the shop of James Limon of Wragby; stealing wearing apparel belonging to William Lee, tailor and draper; stealing wearing apparel from John Utterby of Caistor, stealing 2 hemp sacks from Paul Hacket of Tealby; stealing 5 speckled white and black ducks from Daniel Drakass of Ludford; stealing ahemp sack, 6 stone of wheat flour etc from the corn mill of William Cunningham of Ludford; stealing a saw, 2 knives, a hammer, some mutton and other articles from William Wright of Ludford".
He was sentenced at Lincoln Assize to death, commuted to life and transported to Van Diemen's Land (now Tasmania) aboard the "Sir Godfrey Webster" in August 1823. His accomplices were Edward Taylor and Thomas Wilson, and some of the stolen goods were received by Jane Atkin of Louth.
Interesting, yes?
-
Yes I have already researched that, much more info on him at the Tasmanian archives website. He is an Uncle many times removed.
-
OK then, have you looked at www.Broxholme.net? There's a tree for the Wragby Broxholmes plus lots of other info. (Maybe it was you who put it there, but it's worth mentioning.)
-
Hi,
Yes I have seen that site before.
How are you linked to the Broxholmes ?
-
My mum is a Broxholme. They come from around Fulstow/Glentworth/Fillingham areas. The furthest I've got back is William Brocksum (1788) who was my great (x5) grandfather. How about yourself?
Regards,
Rebecca

Could you share some info on Edward ? I believe he was my great great great grandfather and father of William Broxam. Any light you could shed on this would be most appreciated !

Have sent you a message in your inbox.
Thanks.

Broxam should probably be able to see the PM (assuming he/she has not received any other). However he/she will be unable to reply until he/she has made another post or two. It's just the way the RootsChat system works :-\

Thanks for the heads up re not being able to inbox back - happy to reply here. Yes , i am in Australia and am definately tied to William Broxam, son of Jane ( or Jean ) Strachan. William went on to father 9 children and live to by 85 years old. His 8th born child, Elvin, was my great grandfather. But i have no information in regards to Edward Broxholme and whether he was, in fact, William's biological father. Williams first son, born in 1888 ( his 5th child ) was named " Edward Francis " - so i believe at the very least, he was under the impression Edward Broxholme was in fact his father. I have only started this very exciting journey guys, so i will be sure to keep you informed as my research continues - thank you for you help already !
-
You may find this site useful too.
http://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/SearchScreens/BasicSearch.aspx
If you search Broxam there are digitised records.
I see William was married to Lily ?
Would still like to know when Edward and Jean died ?
Also do we know when Broxholme became Broxam ?
Thanks.

I was interested in your information about the Broxholmes from Wragby, Lincs. I'm a Jebb. My father was Charles Frederick Jebb his father having the same name. I believe his father married Caroline Broxholme. There seems to be a lot of them all in the same area. I'm about to start looking at the history of the area in the hope that I will find out more about the family. I believe they were land owners once - attaining land that once belonged to the monasteries. Surely that would have been during the reign of Henry V11.
-
I have Caroline Broxholme the daughter of William Broxholme 1807 - 1868 and Mary Johnson 1807 - 1849
William's Father Edward 1776 - 1842 was the brother of William 1771 - 1838 (my link follows this line.)
Sounds interesting about your research into Wragby - I haven't really looked into that yet - A book on Wragby came out a few years ago - Where 5 Roads Meets or a similar title.

To FTFHA: While browsing the net I came across this site and your question regarding Edwin Broxholme, born 1857.
My Gt. Grandfather was named Edwin Broxholme. He lived in Wragby and from the details on the photo of his gravestone died 22nd March 1925, aged 68. He was married to Betsy Broxholme, whom I well remember. Betsy died May 22nd 1946.
If Edwin is your relative I do have more info. on the family which may be of interest to you.

Hi,
William Broxholme b.1771 was my 4th great grandfather. Mary Ann Broxholme b.26 Sept.,1855(married Hickson) was my great grand mother.... Mary's daughter Lilian who married a Moore, was my grandmother.
I have photos of Mary Ann, brother Edwin b.1858 and sister Alice b.1868......if you're interested, have you any pics to exchange?
Rgds, Mike.

To the person who is the great grand child of Elvin Broxam. I will like to get in contact with you as I am also the a great grand child of Elvin. Who is you grand parent. Mine was Nellie Broxam (Hughes) His oldest child. Don't want to to get confused with the other Nellie Broxam (Kelly). Let me know if you want to contact me and we can work on the tree together. Did you know there is a family member who has done some research already. Elvin grand son.

Broxholm(e) 'became' Broxham or Broxam and sometimes reverted back again. During my research I've experienced this several times back to the early 1700's. It seems to be an error contributed by the way the name sounded; or lack of literacy from the family members or even some of the clergy who effected the entries.

It's not an error - it's something that wasn't seen to matter.
Of the six surviving signatures of the man we know of as William SHAKESPEARE, all of them are different and none of them use the spelling SHAKESPEARE. :D
-
I quite agree.. so that's another reason. Unfortunately, 300 years later these things matter in our research for us to be able to establish all possible proof of each individual fact.
Apologies for diverting from 'Broxholmes' but even today the recording of many tree details are just copied without care and with no proof - many of which I know to be wrong and will eventually mislead for generations to come.
I think it's sad.

Hello, I too am a descendant, but my tree branch is from Edwins brother, Harry b. Mar. 1865 in Wragby to William BROXHOLME and Martha nee Dunwell. Harry immigrated in 1866 to the United States and sometime before or after was John Dunwell, Jesse, James E. father William and mother Martha, all spelling then was/is BROXHAM. I have been in contact with a descendant of Edwin's named Sam. Please contact me for further exchange of info.
