If Riddle was not registered--which could be Male Robson 1838 Dec ¼ Hexham 25 261
Or there is Sarah Robson 1848 Mar ¼ Hexham 25 290.
Robson are going to be a nightmare sorting in the area. The male child registered in 1838 would not have been quite 3 at the census

The baptism is on the familysearch site
http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=allCollections;r=1
it is on page 13 of 137 for the parish of St John Lee

I tried browsing the pages of the birth registrations to see if it was missed from the transcriptions but unfortunately the pages are not the originals but a typed version. It is possible when the GRO had them typed up the entry was missed.
Possible moves from here
1. You could order the birth certificate of one of the other children to see what the mother's maiden name was
2. You could look for the marriage, it is not on the IGI. If I go to SOG next week I will see if there is a matching marriage in St John Lee parish as they have copies of the records for the parish
3. You could write (or phone) to the local registrar and ask them to do a lookup for the birth registration in the local books they will hold and can quote the baptism mentioned above

Somebody on a tree on ancestry has her down as Mary Askey born c1816 daughter of John Askey but there is no marriage date or location given.
On the 1841 census John Askey is living in the same house as John and Mary Robson. (Askey may be a corruption of Askew)

Thank you everyone for your help
If anyone spots anything else I would be most grateful for anything else - I've got the census and the baptism entry, but it was the GRO I hoped someone would spot, so I could order a certificate and nail down the maiden name.
Thanks again

I think the best bet would be to go for the sibling Sarah. Her baptism is 28 May 1848: Sarah Robson d/o John and Mary Robson, labourer, Todridge.
Although Ridley's baptism may say Sept 21, it is out of place, and Sept 21 was not a Sunday and Oct 21 was. The entry before him was 21 Oct and the next was in November. Does it say Sept in the actual parish record or just in the BT's? If it was Oct then that Male child Robson may be him but unamed as of the registration. And his baptism said parents were John and Mary.
