Title: Ivy Cottages Eighton Banks.
Post by: saffy on Friday 02 April 10 01:48 BST (UK)
Does anyone know where these cottages were please?
Best as I can tell from the census there were about 5 of them.
My smiths were in one at the time of the 1901.

I would love to find out where they were and a picture would be great....
Probably there arent any, but you never know.

thanks a lot.

Hi saffy

I can't pinpoint Ivy Cottages, though from the route the Enumerator took it appears they were North West of Eighton Banks - perhaps where the Golf Course is now.

Gateshead Library may be able to help - it has very good local history resources.

You might also find some useful links from the Wrekenton Heritage Project site.

If you do get further information I may be able to get photographs for you.

The 1881 census ( wherein Ancestry faciltates an address search) shows Ivy Cottage ( X 2 ) between Boundary House and The Vicarage, the Half Moon Inn.

Using the Durham CC GIS mapping, I can see in 1899 and beyond, Boundary House and the Vicarage very close, but no sign of anything Ivy.
