Title: Ballykelly Church of Ireland
Post by: BrnCam on Wednesday 31 March 10 22:23 BST (UK)
Does anyone know what records are available for Ballykelly COI. I'm trying to trace a couple of famlies that came from the area, Meighans' and Moores.

Regards,
Brncam

Thanks aghadowey,
Dates are all a bit early for me at the minute, I would need to be looking connections around 1900 to 1911. I think I'm on the right trail with the records I've come across for the 1911 census but would like to check out births and marriages just to be certain.
Do you know if the church holds any further records?

Regards,
Brncam

The church would have more recent records (note burials on microfilm up to 1946).

Hello kingkerswell,
I'm looking for connections to Alexander Moore born about 1895, apparently he came from quite a large family. In later years he moved to Termeil Dungiven, where he died. He was married to Elizabeth (Madden) in Drumachose Pres. church in 1915.
The second family are Meechan or Meighan. I'm looking for an Elizabeth (born about 1895) whose fathers name was William.

Regards,
Brncam

Hi,
Your dates are a bit late for my sources but I have got a record of a William Meighan who married Jane Whiteside in Scriggan Presbyterian Church on 31 Aug 1880 but I have no records which might show children. Scriggan is about one and a half miles north of Dungiven.

Regards

I'm not sure that your William is the one I'm looking for. I'd found one on the 1911 census in ?Ballykelly with a daughter Elizabeth who would be around the right age for my relative.

Regards,

Hello Brncm, you ask about Alexander Moore. Would his nick name have been (Tiger Flowers). An Alexander (Tiger Flowers) Moore c1896 died 24-06-1953 in Termeil, Dungiven. His father was Wm Moore of Ballykelly and his mother Sarah Jane Mackay. His wife died 27-11-1971.
