Title: JAMES THOMPSON of NORTHALLERTON, b C1806
Post by: Karanest on Wednesday 31 March 10 20:30 BST (UK)
James THOMPSON was shown on the 1841 census as a Tailor. He was living with Christiana MITCHELL. She was a spinster, and the mother of his four children - all named MITCHELL, but was never married to him.

We have traced Christiana, up to her death in 1878, but cannot find any trace of James after 1841.

We do not have any details of James' ancestors, so cannot trace his birth or death via FREE BMD.

We are trying to find out more about James THOMPSON. Can anyone help, please?

there's a burial in Northallerton in January 1843 for a James Thompson aged 39
which would seem to match the death registration
James Thompson march qtr 1843 Northallerton vol 24 pg 291

Baptisms for Northallerton aren't on the online IGI for the period you need. The parish records are in the record office in Northallerton and I'm pretty sure it's one of the parishes they have really good indexes for.

Title: Birdsalls

Hello, Karen ---

Came across your profile while looking for information on Richard Birdsall, b. 1799 in Thornton-le-Dale.  Yours was the only participant who came up when I searched for Birdsall --- but when I went to your page, I did not see Birdsall on your surname list.

If you are interested in this family in this location, I would be interested in sharing info.  If you are not researching the Birdsalls, sorry to bother you --- you might want to contact the website people about why this comes up with your listing for this search.

Very strange! We do have a few BIRDSALL names on our tree, but it is not  a main line for research.
Catherine GUERIN married a Samuel BIRDSALL in Leeds, 1883. Guerin is the line that we are researching.
Samuel's father was a William BIRDSALL, born in Yeadon, Leeds about 1809. If this is of interest to you, please contact me again.

Good luck!

Karen

Hi, Karen -

Thanks for your prompt reply!

My Richard did have a brother named William, but I know that he was born prior to 1799, so it isn't the same one.  The way families repeated names, though, it could well be a cousin.  I'll keep your contact info in case something turns up that appears to be pertinent.
