Hi I've just come across something called the Cancelled Land Books and Current Books which is an update to the Griffiths Valuation. As the Cancelled books shows the change of the head of the household I thought this would be a great resource for finding my Heaney's moving from Glenavy. co. Antrim to England or at least leaving Ireland. Does anyone know where I can access this Cancelled land books at all, has anyone else searched them?? Any help much appreciated. Kind regards Dianna

According to their site it says :-
"The cancelled books for the 26 counties are held in Dublin in the Valuation Office while those for the 6 counties of Northern Ireland (Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Londonderry (Derry and Tyrone) are held in the PRONI in Belfast."

They are in PRONI, Belfast but are very hard to read as the coloured ink (which are how you know dates changes made) have faded into similar colours. Last time I looked at them they still didn't do photocopies of them (wouldn't show up well enough).

PRONI don't do research for you but might send you a list of researchers. Last time I was there they didn't do photocopies from the valuation notebooks so will be interested to learn what they say in their reply.
