Title: Alsager pubs
Post by: Pemus on Tuesday 30 March 10 17:00 BST (UK)
I have an ancestor, Charles Pemberton-who's listed as a 'Farmer and Licensed Victualler' in the 1901 Census-address: 'Longview', Alsager. Near Lawton Road.  Does anyone know if there was a public house at that place?

Wilcoxon,
I haven't used Kelly's Directories before and wonder if there is one for Cheshire between 1932 and 1938.
I am looking for a needle in a haystack!
Herbert Price was a PC and from Oct 1925 was stationed at Christleton.  He retired in July 1935 and according to his daughter's marriage cert, in 1941, he was deceased and a retired licensed victualler.  He was deceased having died in Oct 1938.
I would love to find out which pub and think it could have been in Chester where he was a PC or Crewe where he was buried.
Does anyone know of books about pubs in those areas in the 1930s?  I have googled but with not much luck,
Thanks for your time,
Abiam2

A bit earlier than 1930 but lots of good details.

It`s worth contacting Chester Heritage Centre. Lots of resources there, they may possible have Directories

I am trying to contact Chester @ Large.  But I cannot send my message as there is a note
at the bottom saying anti spam and I think it means you have to add 1 +1: to the box provided  but I still get an error message coming up and it won't go.  Any ideas?

Hi,

Re: longview

The Cheshire County Council websites not only have Tithe maps but also have OS from 1875 and 1910. On the 1910 Longview is shown but it does not say it is an inn or otherwise unlike other establisments which are clearly listed.

1906 & 1910 Kellys no Charles Pemberton.

Hi,
Alsager is in Cheshire, but it has a Stoke on Trent Postcode.

You may find information on public houses, in "The Alehouses and Alehouse keepers of Cheshire 1629 - 1828. There was a copy in Sandbach Library in 2009.

In the 1911 census, my Great-Grandmother Louisa is listed along with her husband Thomas Washington as living at Longview, Alsager.

I have a map of Alsager 1903 which only shows the plot called Longview with no building.

Best Wishes
