Title: Sophia, born at Thame, c1803
Post by: Avril3 on Tuesday 30 March 10 15:18 BST (UK)
I am searching for a SOPHIA  born in c1803 at Thame who married Joseph Ham, a printer, and lived at St Aldates, Oxford.  She is on every census from 1841 to 1871, and died in 1877.

I have found a marriage at Abingdon on 12 July 1818 between JOSEPH HAM and SOPHIA CHAUNDY.

However the only Sophia Chaundy I have found was born in 1800 at Ascott under Wychwood, daughter of George Chaundy and Charlotte Gomm, and she  does not match the date or birthplace from the census records....

I have found a Susanah Amelia Chaundy, BIRTH: 8 Aug 1799 - Oxford, England
MARRIAGE: 21 Aug 1821 - Abingdon, England, PARENTS: William Chaundy, Rebecca Shaw, SPOUSE: John F Coxhead. I wondered if  this might be a sister, as the Abingdon location and date for both marriages might be significant.

If anyone has any other ideas about the possible surname for a Sophia from Thame born c1803 I would love to her from you.

 ???

Avril

Looking at the OFHS disc which has St Mary the Virgin Thame baptisms I can see 3 Sophias baptised around that time
14.4.1802 Sophia Williams baseborn d of Sarah Williams
1.5.1803 Sophia Wigley d of Benjamin & Sarah (Ann crossed out)
27.1.1804 Sophia Wainwright d of Edward  & Ann

I think I saw in your other thread that a marriage to Sophia Wigley had been found

Yes, the marriage to Sophia Wigley  in 1832 looks about right, but unfortunately it seems that Joseph Ham was a widower, and I am interested in the line via William, born c1822 so I need to try to find an earlier marriage and I have no idea who William's mother was.
Any ideas???

Hi Avril,

I'm researching the Chaundy family tree and have two Sophia Chaundys. The one that you found born in 1800 in Ascott-u-W and daughter of George:

http://members.multimania.co.uk/Chaundy/as_census_george.html

Who thanks to JOJ can be seen to have married John Wad(s)on.

The other I have, is Sophia Chaundy born in 1800 in Oxford:

Which I'm hoping is the one you want.

Hope that helps

Hi Sue
Thanks very much for the information, and yes it does help.
The Sophia Chaundy I am looking for married Joseph Ham on 12 July 1818 at Abingdon.
I think she was the Sophia born in Oxford and not the one from Ascott under Wychwood, and if the latter married John Wad(s)on that makes it clearer.
I have seen some family trees on Ancestry that include Chaundys, and it looks as though their fathers were brothers and thus the two Sophias were cousins.
It has been fascinating to see the Chaundy family history, which seems very well documented.
Thanks again,
Regards
Avril
