Title: Rinaldo Robinson 1868 Clare, Suffolk
Post by: mimram on Tuesday 30 March 10 11:20 BST (UK)
Hi
I am trying to find the birth of Rinaldo Robinson. He was born in approx 1868 in either Clare, Suffolk or Pimlico, London.
His parents were John and Sarah Robinson. I cannot find any birth or death for Rinaldo, or any details for his mother. I would really like to find the parent's marriage and her birth, death and maiden name.

1881 census shows:
John Robinson        38   b. Clare, Suffolk
Sarah Robinson      39   b. Hartest, Suffolk
Rhinaldo Robinson  13   b. LondonPimlico, London, Middlesex
Kate Robinson        11   b. Clare, Suffolk

I always thought Rinaldo was spelt like this and on another census it says he was born in Clare.

Hi Mimram,

1871 shows him born Pimlico as well. I wonder if this is a possible birth registration:

Walter Rinaldo Robinson
Sep 1867 St George Hanover Square 1a 338

(mind, I see he marries as Rinaldo Middleditch Robinson, and so does his sister Kate apparently)

Hi Tati

I did wonder about that one, but I think that Walter appears on a later census.
I was trying to find the marriage to find out what Sarah's maiden name was in case Rinaldo was registered under this.

Oh - sorry then, I couldn't spot Walter Rinaldo on later censuses anywhere.

Looking at Kate - there doesn't appear to be a birth in the name Robinson for her, but there is:

Kate Middleditch
Dec 1869 Risbridge 4a 418

Her birth cert would show Sarah's maiden name.

(I don't think Sarah was called Middleditch - the Middleditch comes from John's side as far as I can see. The 1851 census suggests that his parents Rinaldo Robinson and Caroline Middleditch weren't married HO107/1787 557 34 - )

Here's a possible marriage
John R Middleditch to possibly Sarah A Molten, Dec 1866 Sudbury 4a 861

Hi Tati

Thanks for that but John has always been listed on the censuses as a Robinson.
I have found a baptism in the parish registers for Kate.
I don't know if Caroline Middleditch was John's mother as she was listed as a housekeeper on the 1851 census and he was listed as Rinaldo's son, and aged 8 years old.
I'm still checking in case I can find a birth record or marriage but both seem scarce!

The fact he was registered in one name on a census doesn't prove that his birth/marriage was registered in the same name, but up to you to decide whether it's worth pursuing or not  :)

Tati's findings make a lot of sense to me.

Otherwise the only other birth that might be worth pursuing (though it dies not explain where the Pimlico birthplace comes from) is

Jan/Feb/Mar 1865
Risbbridge 4a 435
Rinaldo Mitson

Thanks for that.

I wonder if John's real name was John Middleditch, and his mother was Caroline.
Maybe he also used the name John Robinson. This could be why he was married as a Middleditch and his daughter Kate's birth was listed as a Middleditch. However the family are on the censuses as Robinson!

My guess:

Birth John Robinson
Mar 1843 Risbridge 12 418

The cert will probably show parents Rinaldo Robinson and Caroline formerly Middleditch
(parents pretending to be married when they weren't actually)
If Caroline wasn't his mother, he and his descendants probably wouldn't use Middleditch on later BMDs

Marriage John R Middleditch to possibly Sarah A Molten, Dec 1866 Sudbury 4a 861
The cert would confirm that the middle R stands for Robinson.
Previous censuses show a Sarah Ann Mo(u)lton born Hartest - a little older than she later pretended to be though.

Sarah Ann possibly dies Mar 1882 Risbridge and John possibly remarries in 1883, Risbridge district:
John Robinson Middleditch to either Eliza Amey or Eliza Head

If I'm looking at the right census records, John is shown as married in 1891 but there's no wife at home - only a young housekeeper. 1901 has a widowed matching John Robinson. Possible 3rd marriage:Dec 1901 Sudbury 4a 1563: John Middleditch Robinson to either Amy Payne or Harriet Rising.

Death Sep 1906 Risbridge John Robinson age 63

Rinaldo's sister Kate marries as Kate Middleditch Robinson, Dec 1889
Rinaldo marries as Rinaldo Middleditch Robinson in Mar 1891
Rinaldo's first daughter is registered as Gertie Middleditch Robinson, Jun 1891

The latest available census shows Rinaldo Robinson & family in Newmarket district.

Death Mar 1944 Newmarket 4a 1314
Renaldo Robinson age 76

Still can't find a birth for Rinaldo other than the Walter Rinaldo mentioned earlier.

I wonder if anyone noticed that Rinaldo has 2 listings in the 1891 census? One with wife Clara at Clare, Suffolk where his POB is transcribed as Lindon, and the other listing with the same occupation of mail cart driver as born Birkenhead, Berkshire but living at Sudbury, Suffolk. I thought the census was taken on the same night so he shouldn't be in 2 locations.
Of course there is no birth listing in Berkshire nor could I find the marriage of his parents.

I happened to be searching for a Clara Honeywood but yours in the wrong one for me.
