Hi Jose
I cannot find the wedding either but did find your family living on the same row of houses on the 1881 census.
They are living at Top Fold, Wortley, and both Edward and Maria are aged 72.
Edward is classed as a Cloth Weaver. In those days in Armley, Wortley area they used to do the weaving at home as well as wool weaving.
A few houses away (3) from them on the census are people with the same surnames -
Sarah Constantine aged 58 yrs Head Cloth Burler
Martha " " 21 " "
Emma " 1 Grandaughter
then 6 houses away
Samuel Hepper aged 50 Head Fire Brick maker
Elizabeth 46 wife
Arthur Rawson 19 step son " "
Jane A Rawson 16 step daugh Cloth Burler
Hope this helps a little. I was born in that area of Leeds so know where it was before it was knocked down years ago.

Hi Jose
Being a fellow Leeds loiner I don't know if you've already come across this site but it's got a brilliant forum for helping you find out about your Leeds roots or any queries about Leeds in general. My mum was born in Second Avenue, Armley and I've been able to find out lots about her family on here

Another great site for old Leeds photos is

Best of luck with your family history research

Hi Scruffypup
Recognise you from the Secret Leeds site, it is good and I joined it last night.
Its great to talk about Leeds to people who know what its like and what its all about. I was born in Armley just for a clue of who I am lol/
Definitely a place to join Ozjobri I hope to learn more about the area of Leeds and I am sure I will, I have seen the names Lenz and Boddy on my research around Armley, Bramley, now called Wortley area and remember the Police Man on my travels. I think the Binks one of my families lived nearby so we are all interconnected if born in the same area. I marvel at the fact my family I have now researched for over 2 years all lived in the same areas or their Grandparents did and its as if they introduced their Grandkids to someone and got them married off. I remember being born in Armley, Leeds and even as a child knew people who lived a quarter of a mile away by name. That situation doesnt exist anymore but its nice to know it did in those days

Hi Sandy
Sounds like you do know me ;D As you know I'm from the other side of Leeds, Mum got tb in 58 and was told to move to one of the new estates opening up in North Leeds where there was less industry (before the Coal Road area became built up) so she upped her roots from the Holbeck/Armley/Pudsey/Wortley area and moved to Seacroft.
Just out of interest is there a Martin Gatenby in your family, he was at Foxwood in the late 70's?
Think you are right about families all knowing each other, Mums friends were the Dennysons and Swifts both big families, I bet all 3 of our families either lived close by or worked in the same factories. Mum went to Mill Green, Green Lane and Whitehall Road schools.
Strangely enough only my Grandparents and Mum were born in Leeds my Grans family the Leng/Boddys were from Helmsley and my Granddad's family Lyon/Taylor came from Huddersfield and before that Lincs/Leics/Ireland. My Dad was from Sunderland and before that his family came from all over the place.

Hi Scruffy
I havent got any info on uptodate ancestor members so am unaware who Martin Gatenby is. I would say that I was also going to live at the new estate Seacroft in the 1950's but there was no buses that were regular in those days of the opening of the estate and my Dad who was a postman started work about 5.30am and the buses didnt start until about 7 or 8am, lol. So we didnt move.
