Title: Coalter of Tempo
Post by: HelenCoulterPhair on Monday 29 March 10 15:01 BST (UK)
Hi,

I'm trying to trace Coalters in the Tempo area.
John Coalter & Florella Liggett married 25 Mar 1859 in the Clonaneese Upper Presbyterian Meeting House, Co Tyrone, Ireland, but all their children were born in Remaley or Clabby, Tempo district, Co Fermanagh.

John 1866, James 1868, George 1870, William 1873, Samuel 1875 & Florella 1878.

I'm descended from James, his children were also born in Tempo, but have no information about the others.

Kind regards,
Helen

Helen,
Welcome to Rootschat. There seems to be some discrepency with the spelling of the names. In the Record Search section of www.familysearch.org and in Emerald Ancestors the family name is spelled COULTER. In Emerald Ancestors Florella is spelled FROELLA.

Regards

Thanks for the replies,  The surname is either Coalter or Coulter and changes from one document to the next.  My grandfather was born Coalter but changed to Coulter on his marriage, Dad says they were told that Coalter wasn't spelt with an 'a' so changed, but his siblings kept the old spelling.
I would have preferred Coalter, it would have meant that people pronounced the name correctly (our our way at least) I grew up in Scotland and they couldn't  pronounce our name correctly, ever.

The Florella that married in 1920 is my great aunt, the granddaughter of Florella Ligget and niece of Florella Coalter.  She married a William Coalter.

I saw the name as Froella.  I know my (great) aunt was Florella, Florrilla in 1911 census.  Perhaps the name should be Froella, who knows, it's not a name I've ever heard before, but I guess the three generations were named after each other.

I was wanting to find out what happened to the brothers and sister of James Coalter b 1868.
Did they marry, emigrate or die?

Regards,
Helen

Looking at the UK-Infodisk there are more COALTER than there are COULTER in
county Fermanagh but neither show in Tempo.

Mike.

My maiden name is Coalter and my father's family comes from around the Tempo area near Enniskillen. My dad had an aunt called Florry (not sure what her full name was). I was interested in your post and wondered if we may be related (distantly!).

1  am likely not of this family but many years ago a gentleman gave me a pedigree chart of a Thomas Graham m to a Bessie Coulter of Tempo. I would be happy to share  a jpeg of the chart with anyone who is interested. I am searching for Coulters in the Maguires Bridge area and since we were sort of "close" and  both had unknown Coulters, I received this info. The chart is for the Grahams. I believe the man who gave it to me is deceased.  Email me at lhess at shaw dot ca

Hello
I am not a Coulter/Coalter descendant but am a descendant of the Phair family. Charlotte Elizabeth Phair married James Coulter in Kinawley. James parents were John Coalter & Florella Liggett & Charlottes parents were William Phair and Margaret Jane Taylor.

Here is the wikitree for William Phair https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Phair-327

Thanks Lauren
