Hi
Seeking assistance with marriage and birth records of William Ebbs, please?
Married Caroline Watson nee Ebbs nee Mead.
Maybe married second husband Thomas Ebbs's brother William at 3rd chance of marriage.
Caroline b.29 Apr 1812 St Margarets Herts.ENG christened Stanstead Abbots Hertford ENG.
William died 1850 Herts.ENG.
Also looking for their son William Mark Prewett Ebbs's birth date.
Prewett not sure where that came from? Maybe William's (father) mother's maiden name?
Cheers

Old Workhouse Yard, Hertford
Caroline Ebbs 39 Widow Charwoman bn St Margarets
John 18
George 16
Louisa 14
Charity 10
Thomas 7 all bn Hertford
...so I cant see any indication that she had another marriage to William Ebbs, or that she had a son WIlliam MArk Prewett Ebbs ...
where does this theory come from? There is really not a lot of time between 1841 and 1850 for Thomas to have died, her to marry a Watson, him to have died, her to marry WIlliam Ebbs and then him to have died ... possible I guess, but with no marriages found why is it thought this is the case? And where has WIlliam Mark Prewett Ebbs been seen?

1861 is interesting

Henry Mead 48 widwer labourer bn Hertford
George 23 son
Caroline Ebbs 49 widow housekeepr bn St Margarets
Thomas Ebbs 17 son
Charles Ebbs 9 son
Mary Ebbs 4 dtr
Caroline has managed to produce 2 more children - I wonder if she is more than a housekeeper to Mr Mead?
(you said her maiden name was Mead - are you sure?)

Looks like they were Henrys ... at least Mary

Hi
Thanks for the replies.
Thomas Ebbs was buried 22 Nov 1843 Hertfordshire ENG Aged 41
A baptism for William s/o William and Caroline is recorded as 23Sep1849 at Hertford St.John and All Saints.
The Hertfordshire Burial Index records a William EBBS age 1+ on 08Jan1850 at Hertford All Saints.
v6 p381
So next came William Mark Prewett Ebbs but cant find his birth date.
1st husband
In 1841 Henry and Sarah MEAD and their son George age 2. Sarah died Dec qtr 1844 (Hertford Dist V.6 P.373).

Henry and son George are there in 1861, with Caroline Ebbs as housekeeper - no indication she has married him, and even if she does later, certainly not as her 'first' husband.
-
So next came William Mark Prewett Ebbs but cant find his birth date.
'came' from where? Where have you found him?
-
Looks like Caroline and Henry might have married in 1861 just after census
Marriage
Ap/May/Jun 1861
Ware 3a 188b
caroline Ebbs / one of grooms on page Henr Mead
but then she dies
Oct/Nov/Dec 1870
Hertford
Caroline Mead age 61
leaving Henry a widower with the child Mary on 1871 as I found.
I really question a) that she was nee Mead, b) that she ever married a William c) where Watson comes in (unless that was her maiden name before she married Thomas Ebbs) d) that William Mark whatsit was anything to do with her
-
So next came William Mark Prewett Ebbs but cant find his birth date.

Where did you get this info from- there is no William Ebb in Herts with those middle names- nor is there a William Mark Prewett either.

Agree that a William EBBS was born and died that was the son of a William and Caroline. But seem unrelated to the Caroline we have 1841/1851 Census.
No indication of a William Mark Prewett EBBS existing that I can see ???

Thnaks Trish for your input - clarifies that Caroline was nee Watson , then marries Thomas Ebbs, and it seems later married Henry Mead.
and as for the Prewett chappie ...
Velcro? why did you think he was a child of this Caroline?

Hi all

So have I got this correct;
William M P Ebbs died 1921 aged 72, in WA, so born c 1849
From the birth date of William you looked for Births abt 1849 and came up with the one in Herts.?
Then looked on Census.?
Checked IGI and found Birth death of a William Ebbs to William and Mary in Herts?
Presumed they had another William c 1850?
Do you have all the relevant Australian birth/death/marriage certs?
Details of Williams arrival in Australia ? With or without Family?

Thomas Ebbs married Caroline Watson (bachelor & spinster) at Hertford in 1831
(see attached)
Caroline after the death of Thomas, who died whilst she was still pregnant in the latter part of 1841 went on to marry Henry Mead in Great Amwell, Hertfordshire in 1861
I believe Caroline died in 1870

Thank you both for your input. Much appreciated.
