On NZ BMD's https://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/Home/
Born to an Elizabeth and Denis Cyril Cronin
1899/8820 Larisa Jane
1902/1377 John Thomas
1903/18824 Daisy Elizabeth
1904/13057 Denis Cyril
1907/20159 Roy.
Of course to be absolutely sure these are your Elizabeth and Denis one of the children's birth certs would have to be bought. This would confirm the mother's maiden name.

BDM do not appear to show a birth of either Denis Cronin or Cyril Cronin in given time frame, so not possible to check if the father Denis Cyril is your man.
However, note that BDM show the marriage of Elizabeth McGill to Denis Cronin (no second name Cyril and note spelling of Denis with one 'n') in 1899, not 1889 as shown in your first post.
A Denis Cyril Cronin married Phyllis Kennedy in 1923.
A Denis Cyril Cronin died 1943 aged 67 [b. calc 1876] is buried at Pokeno

From School Records:
Denis Cronin, b. 09 Sep 1876 attended Mercer School from 08 Mar 1886 to 16 Oct 1889. Parent/Guardian Michael Cronin.
John Thomas Cronin, Daisy Elizabeth Cronin and Denis Cyril Cronin attended Schools at Mercer and Taupiri between 01 Feb 1909 and 09 Dec 1915, Parent/Guardian Denis Cronin.
There are several anomalies in the birth dates shown on these records, ???
so PM me if your require further details.
So it looks as though Denis b. 1876 sometimes used a second name of Cyril and also passed it on to his son. There is a probate for Denis Cyril Cronin occ. farmer, from Mercer filed at Auckland 29 Sep 1943.
-
Roy Patrick Cronin was admitted to Mercer School 2 Feb 1914 - no birthdate or Parent shown.
Roy Patrick Cronin died 15 Dec 1979 aged 72, truck driver of Cambridge, is at Waipa Cemetery.

Hi Jean
Just a correction to the above date you have for the marriage. ;)
According to the NZ Marriage Index (online), the wedding took place on 24 April 1899.

Hi again Jean
Noting that the above (highlighted) birth, shows on the BDM index as "Larise Jane" --- not as "Larisa Jane" as given in the earlier posting.
I mention this, because I there is the following death on BDM.
I think that "Larise Jane CRONIN" may very well be the child "Doris Jane CRONIN", shown as dying in 1902. ??? The age certainly fits.
NZ Death Index
1902 /
CRONIN - Doris Jane - aged 3 years
Died: 1 December 1902 (Place of event not given on index)
Parents names of course are not shown on the death index, but maybe there is a cemetery record or headstone inscription which might help solve the "mystery" ?

Re: the above. Often names get mistranscribed (and we're forever finding lots of "oddities" on this online BDM. ::) :D)
I have some other look-ups to do this week, so I'll check the microfiche Birth Index to see how the christian names for these CRONIN children, have been recorded.

There is a Denis Cronin who evidently lived in the Wanganui area for many years.
Read about him here.

probably nothing to do with your family but makes interesting reading.

Hello jean,
Just go to http://archway.archives.govt.nz/ and do a simple search for Denis Cronin.
There are five records, the probate is the 1943 one.
Some of the others may be of interest as well.

Daisy Elizabeth CRONIN - d.o.b. 2 March 1903
Parents: Elizabeth and Denis Cyril
---------------------------------------------
NZ Marriage
Daisy Elizabeth CRONIN - Harold John MILLER - 1923
Death
1992 - MILLER - Daisy Elizabeth - born 2 March 1903
Added: Date of Death - 9 August 1992
-
If You are wanting to find further information for Daisy Elizabeth MILLER, then Archives New Zealand at Auckland, hold a Probate record for her. The file should contain a copy of her will, in which you will possibly find names of her children (or other family members).
MILLER - Daisy Elizabeth - Auckland - Widow - 1992
~ Lu
-
Archives NZ (Auckland) also have a probate file for >>
MILLER - Harold John - Mt. Albert - Retired - 1978
I suspect this is the husband of Daisy Elizabeth (only one death found on NZ online index for a "Harold John MILLER").
There is a cremation record for him at Waikumete (Auck.).
http://www.waitakere.govt.nz/
Daisy Elizabeth MILLER is not at same cemetery :
Will see if I can find her elsewhere.
~ Lu
-
The Manukau Memorial Gardens (Auck.) cemetery database has a record of the death of Daisy Elizabeth MILLER - d. 9 August 1992 :
[Unsure as to whether record is for burial or cremation or what further information might be available ?]

-
Update :
From check made of microfiche Birth and Death indexes :
Birth
1889 - CRONIN - Larise Jane (Folio # 3555)
Registered - 4th quarter - at Drury
* This is a typewritten record and clearly states name of child as "Larise Jane CRONIN" :
Death
1902 - CRONIN - Doris Jane (Folio # 2240)
Registered - 4th Quarter - at Pukekohe
* This record was handwritten and quite difficult to read but yes, the name looked to be "Doris Jane".
Perhaps you can look for a cemetery record at Pukekohe which might shed light on whether this child was in fact the daughter of Elizabeth and Denis CRONIN ?

hi lucy2
thanks for the reply, i think that larisa jane cronin and dorris cronin are the same person going by the dates of birth and deaths of them both. i have not been able to find any more at the moment. so thank you for all the help you have given me on this i am so very greatful.
kindest regards.........jean............. :)

Hi Jean
Yes, I agree, I think the "Larise" / "Doris" records, relate to the same child.

Hi there. I'm not sure if you are still looking for info on the McGill/Cronin link. I have a wee bit of info in my family research as Elizabeth McGill who married Denis Cronin in Pokeno c 1899 is my great-great-grandfather's cousin. Let me know if you are still interested. Kind regards, Sue
-
hi sue.
thank you for your message regarding the families mcgill and cronin, i am still doing my research on
the families, but had to stop for a while as i was ill, i am now not too bad so trying to catch up on
this, my sister and i are both searching the families of both our parents, the family of the mcgills and
cronins are connected to our family as mary ann winchester was my 3xgreat aunt, she married james rhind in 1851 and emigrated to new zealandin 1865 with 4 children. one of the children was elizabeth rhind there daughter who married john ross mcgill in papakura, and there daughter also named elizabeth married denis cronin. i found the family while looking for mary ann winchester, as my sister was looking up the family in scotland, we never knew about any family as our grandfather never spoke about them now its getting bigger as we find more, i will be greatfull for any information on the family.
do you know anything about the wade family as this is another family connected to ours.
i will noe send my sister a message as she will like to know about you contacting me.
look forward to hearing from you soon. my kindest regards...........jean........... :)

Hi, Is anyone still following this e-mail thread? Where did you get to with this information?
I am Anton Cronin, grandson of Roy Patrick Cronin (31 Oct 1907 - 15 Dec 1979). I have all the family details from him downwards.
Roy Patrick Cronin was the fifth child of Dennis Cyril and Elizabeth Cronin (nee McGill). Before Roy, they had Dorris (died aged 3), John, Daisy and Dennis. I Have a bunch of information on these siblings somewhere.
Dennis Cyril Cronin was one of 10 children of Michael and Mary Cronin. Their childrens names were Bridget, James, Sarah, Michael, Maria, Jane, John, Dennis, Patrick and William. Again, have limited information on these siblings.
Ref the original question, Elizabeth Cronin (nee McGill) would have been my Great Great Grandmother.
Elizabeth McGill, born 1877, died 16 Jul 1928, Pokeno aged 51. (daughter of John Ross McGill and Elizabeth Rind).
Married Dennis Cyril Cronin, Born 1876 Mercer. Worked as Ganger for NZ Railways. Died 17 Sep 1943 (aged 67)
Married 1889 in Pokeno.

I'll try and get back to you with more info ASAP. We actually have our first family reunion in about 20 years this weekend so intend to try to update as much of our family information as possible.
To clarify your link, am I correct that James Rhind Married Mary Ann Winchester in 1851 in Scotland. Both were Scottish? Emigrated to NZ in 1865 with their four children, one of which was Elizabeth Rhind. Elizabeth Rhind Married John Ross McGill and had ??????? Children One of which was my great great grandmother, Elizabeth McGill. I'd be keen to know any other details you have (birth and death dates, locations of each, marriage details) of any of these people if its available.
Regard
Anton

Hello everyone,
this year it is 150 years since the arrival of Michael and Mary Cronin - from Ireland, via South Africa,to New Zealand. Some of my relatives are mentioned in these posts.
A few of us descendents would like to organise a reunion at Labour weekend.
Would love to hear from any other relatives.
Cheers

Does anyone know the name of the Ship that Mary and Michael sailed on to NZ?
-
Hi Anton,
My brother and I have been working on the Cronin family tree for some years now. Our grandfather William Henry Cronin was the youngest son of Michael and Mary.
Micheal and Mary arrived in NZ in October 1864 on the Steinwerder.. That information came by sifting through ship arrivals .
Trish Gapes ( nee Cronin), now living in Katikati.

Hi Songbird366, and welcome to RootsChat :)
The Steinwarder was one of several vessels that brought immigrants as part of the Waikato Immigration Scheme. Here is a passenger list in case you or others would like to see it:
