In Nenagh registration district.Year 1917 quarter April Oct Vol. 3 page 333.
No entry for Christopher but I don't think the index is completed.
also in the 1911 census there is a McMahon family in william St Nenagh - son Joseph age 10 also Mary Ellen age 5. don't know if this is the family you are looking for- Link to census

The civil index on LDS Pilot site is complete- I searched for Christopher Barrett and got a birth registration in Nenagh district without any bother. Put in 'Christopher Barrett' then after results come up select 'Tipperary' - not posting details here since it's too recent.

This is an amazing site..how long has it been around and why wasn't I told!
Truly thank you for it..it will help both my husband and I to look for our elusive Irish ancestors who came to Australia but would have left behind loved ones. I will pass on the info to the Barrett McMahon researcher. Just a quick look at if using the close, and partial facility I found loads in Nenagh.
Cheers ONeill

remember that the Nenagh mentioned on the civil index is the registration district.. which covers a much larger area than the town (over 600 townlands).

HI Seanmac,
Thanks for that information is it census type information. What is Nenagh Family Roots 1901?
I have passed it along to the family history researcher for the Barrett McMahon family.

The Barrett/McMahon family are my grandparents and I'd like to thank everyone for their help. The Electoral list for 1940/41 and the LDS familysearch site has enabled me, at last, to identify my McMahon ancesters. I am also interested accessing the Nenagh Roots 1901 site and the Electoral lists for Nenagh so would be grateful for info as to how I can do this.
My grandfather, Edward Barrett, was killed by a drunk driver in Nenagh in 1936. I presume that this would have been reported in the local newspaper at the time. Does anyone know what paper this would have been and how I can obtain a copy of the report?
Many thanks in anticipation Janice

The Nenagh Guardian would possibly have a reference to the accident.
Irish newspaper Archives website http://www.irishnewsarchive.com/
is a pay site but they have a good run of issues of the Nenagh Guardian.

Nenagh Roots 1901 is a book of extracts taken from 1901 census, but has not information re 'Head', 'Wife' or ages. Only gamily names and addresses.
The book also includes the Electors List.
-
annclare - thank you for the newspaper info & link
seanmac - how do I obtain a copy of the Nenagh family roots book and do you know if the 1901 census of Ireland is online?
Many thanks Janice

Hi i just stumbled across this now,
I am related to Mary McMahon from William street, Nenagh. she would have been my fathers Aunt, also i have cousins who are Barretts but now live in London. They come home every few years to visit Nenagh. Their Father would have been Patrick (Paddens) Barrett born around 1920?
i could get more information from my father or put you in touch with Ed Barrett.
regards

Hi John
My father was Christopher Barrett born 16 December 1920 in Nenagh and lived at 12 William Street. He had 2 brothers Patrick (born 1917) and Michael (born 1924). His parents were Edward Barrett and Bridget McMahon. Your father's aunt Mary may be Bridget's sister. Bridget was born about 1892, got married in 1914 and died in 1937. I know little about my grandfather Edward Barrett except that he was killed by a drunk driver in 1936 and that there is a cross in Nenagh at the place he was killed. After the death of their parents all 3 brothers went to live with their grandmother Julia McMahon who also lived in William Street. My father and Patrick left Nenagh in 1943 to work in Norfolk where they both married local girls. Patrick returned to live in Nenagh in 1954 and 3 of his 7 children were born there. They returned to the UK in 1959 and lived in Forest Gate London. Patrick's children are Ann, Edwin, Ena, Kevin, Gerald, Bernard and Patrica. If any of this is familiar then we are related and I'd very much like to share family info with you. I attach a photo of my parents taken in 1946.
Best wishes Janice

Hi Janice,
great to hear back from you.
I am sending a link to my family from the 1911 Census, Patrick McMahon aged 18 was my grandfather.
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Tipperary/Nenagh_West_Urban/William_Street/821195/
I will speak to my father about more information that i can share with you & i can also get an address for Edwin Barrett who would be greatly interested in this also.
I have been researching my family roots a while back and I can only go back so far because of census forms being destroyed heres years back, the McMahons originally came from near Killaloe Co.Clare.
I will message you with more info shortly.
Its great to find new relatives.
regards John

Hi.
I'm the grandchild of a Denis McMahon who lived in William Street as a child. My mother is Mary Ellen McMahon and I'm in the process of having her returned to Nenagh via the Safe Home Programme. Don't know if this helps any of you from this thread.

Having broken this down from the 1911 census. At 32 William Street, lived my maternal great grandparents, Jeremiah and Mary Ellen. From their five children, Thomas, Joseph, Michael-John and Mary Ellen are all my great uncles and Aunts. Denis who was 12 at the time is the father of my mother, who is also called Mary Ellen, making him my grandfather.
