Hi,My sister and I are deciding if we can apply for my dads
ww11 army records.I think from reading the forms on the
veterans site that the statement below means the cost would be 30
pounds sterling (40 euro).
If you are NOT the surviving spouse or civil partner of the deceased, then include payment
[Cheque for £30 (Sterling) per record requested]. Details of who to make this payable to are found on the Service-specific forms.

]However my sister thinks that as both our parents are deceased that this means one of us as next of kin would be able to apply free of charge.Would anyone have had any experience of applying in these circumstances be able to advise us on which of the options we should use and also I notice there are 3 different forms so which one would be the correct one to use[/color]
thanks in advance.

Hi Anne !
Sorry but you will have to pay. It is only the service person or their spouse who has access to the records for free.

Hi Gortonboy and Wendy,Thank you both for your replies,I thought that might
be the case. It's just a bit steep to pay at the moment and also the risk they might not find anything and the £30 is non refundable too.we will have to think if we have enough information to ensure the record is found.
thanks again.

Hi ,Just an update on the subject of my dads service papers.
The link below explains why we finally decided to send
away a request for them.Short version,I found a letter
with his service number e.t.c.We thought that gave the
best chance to find them. However we received a letter
back from Glasgow today to say the application was received
but there could be a 6 to 8 month wait :(. The reason given is the high number of welfare related requests being received from former soldiers.
Well no argument from me there,of course they are a priority.
It's just that I did'nt realise these would be dealt with from
the same section. What was the usual waiting time does anyone know.

Hi Anne, I'm sure it will be worth the wait!
As far as I can remember I think the 6 month wait has been kinda static for a good couple of years now :-\
Wendi :)

Morning Wendi, Thank you for your reply,ah well we will just have to be patient so and they definitely will be worth it I'm sure.
best wishes

hi wonder if any one can tell me if i would get the full army records of my late father as my younger sister has already got them and will not let me see any thing she put herself in as next of kin so does that mean i have to apply as third party and not get all the information i would have thought all children would have been equal

I can't see that they are going to get sticky about that. Apply without mentioning the previous request. If perchance they actually queried this then surely all you have to do is point out that you are the older sister and it's not your problem that they released them to another family member. In reality no matter what the rules say they would probably release these to anyone who could prove some reasonable connection.
