Hello Suanne
I don't know where you looked to find them in Lambeth but in 1871 they are here:
Rodney Row, St Mary, Newington (Southwark district).
Wm Dudley, age 60. Occupation - Carpenter. Born Kent.
Elizabeth (wife) age 54. Born Middlesex.
Alfred (son) age 17. Born Surrey.
Rhuben (son) age 11. ditto
Alice (daughter) age 19. ditto
In 1881:
36 Tiverton Street, Newington (Southwark).
Willm Dudley, age 68. Occupation - Carpenter. Born Sheerness
Elizth (wife), age 64. Occupation - Dressmaker. Born Aldgate, Middlesex
George (son), age 32. Occupation - Barman. Born Newington.
Alfred (son), age 27. Occupation - Carpenter. ditto
Reuben (son), age 24. Occupation - Waiter (Inn). ditto
I still can't find any of them on the 1861 census though.

By the way Newington was in Lambeth at that time. Well that what it says on the copy of the Census return.

Hi Suanne,
William Thomas Dudley was my great-great-great grandfather. One of his son's, Francis, had a son, Thomas Henry, who emigrated to Canada in the 1920's. His daughter, Lucy Jane was my grandmother. As far as my family knows, Thomas Dudley was the only Dudley from his family (a younger brother, Alex, returned to England) to emigrate. If you have any further information about the Dudley family, it would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Wendy

Hi
The help guide to censuses at the top of the Surrey board gives further information on the difficulties of the 1861 census and what is missing/lost from it
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,403501.0.html
It also links to another topic that gives very specific information on the losses in Lambeth on that census as an example of just how much is missing from this census across the London area.
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,73670.0.html
St Mary's Newington was a district wedged between Southwark and Lambeth though considered part of Southwark

The nearest family event to the 1861 census appears to be Reuben's birth (can't see a baptism for him)
Births Sep 1859
Dudley Reuben Newington 1d 182
His birth would give you a street to search in the area for the 1861 census
You can find the exact reference for streets in Newington on the 1861 census using this guide

Hi
It doesn't mean their census entry is lost it may be misenumerated or misindexed.
