Hi and welcome to Rootschat

You would need to give us a lot more info

Christian names - birthyears - what census info do you already have etc etc

I don't know anything about the family, but I may be able to locate the property for you. I've found it on an early (c1870) OS map, but am having trouble locating it on a modern map. I've found an adjascent property, Tyddyn Ucha, on a modern OS map. This is south of Moel y Crio, which is South West of Halkyn.
If you wish, I can send you the old map, either as a PM or to your e-mail address. I'm not sure which will work.
Tecwyn :)

Hi Tecwyn

You can't attach anything to a pm and as Fallows has only made one post he/she would not be able to respond to a pm at this stage

Wow, you guys are quick! Shion Price(Born 1787?) married to Sarah Price (Born 1796?). Shion died sometime between 1841 & 1851. Sarah died sometime after 1881. Would like to find out where they are buried, what was/is Plas Winter?? Does anybody live there now?

Not much to go on I know but any help greatly appreciated.

If Fallows posts one more reply - he will be able to reply to a pm

No death on freebmd for Shion Price.  Unusual christian name.   Are you absolutely sure that was his name or are you just going by the 1841 transcription

Hi fallows

Welcome to rootschat :)

I think the Shion Price you are looking for may have been mistranscribed, because there is this baptism at Halkyn:

Jan 1, 1784  PRICE, Shem d/o of Robt. & Anne - abode Upper H. (i.e. Upper Halkyn?)

In 1851 at Plas Winter, Sarah Price, widow, gives her age as 56, born Cilcaen, Flintshire.

fallows - do you have the marriage of Shem & Sarah Price to confirm Sarah's maiden name was in fact Price?

I think Shem's name led to severe mistranscriptionitis  ;D
There is a death recorded on North Wales BMD in 1846 under PRICE, SheW which is probably him.   The local reference for the certificate  is FLNT/04/19.

Free BMD has a death in Jun Q 1846 for a ShAW Price.

If you 'google' Plas Winter Halkyn you will see a site CPAT.
Plas Winter is listed as a Lead/silver mine operating 1897-1913.
There is also a map showing its location.

Hi Fallows,

As you have just started on family history I thought it might be worth mentioning that names (especially unusual ones) as well as other info., are often wrongly transcribed by someone in the chain, so have an open mind. Also its easier to build up information from the present and work backwards, so if you have info on Sarah and Shem's children or grandchildren it can sometimes be easier for someone to find them on census or parish registers.

Cheers
Wendy

I recently found this interesting website whilst looking for something else Family History related & due to the fact that I am in close proximity to the property & family name in question, thought it might be helpful to register & share the following.

Plas Winter near Halkyn is located off the B5123 in Rhosesmor
It's location can be found by doing a Google Maps search for Plas Winter Flintshire then use the reduce button to to put Plas Winter into prospective to the B5123.

Perhaps St Paul's Church Registry in Rosesmor might be able to help.

Gladstone's Library in Hawarden Flintshire could be a useful place to research for information about the Price family - http://www.st-deiniols.com/ - amongst other things, they hold a lot of historical (to Halkyn) information.

You could also try exploring Free REgisters - http://www.freereg.org.uk/ -
They have Halkyn Baptism records for :-
1718 - 1835
1808 - 1839
1815 - 1850

From what I can see, as yet, the website has not added Rhosesmor to their list of records to be recorded.

Another source of information might be Flintshire County Council's Records & Archives - http://www.flintshire.gov.uk/wps/portal/english/services?WCM_GLOBAL_CONTEXT=/web+content/Flintshire/English/Services/100009/200111

Good luck with your research!

Hi,

I'm also related to Shem Price of Plas Winter.  Just to let you know that I went to Plas Winter today.  We found it by putting into the Sat Nav 'Tyddyn Ucha' which is the building which Tecwyn said was adjacent to Plas Winter.  They are both houses which stand in their own grounds, but once we'd reached our Sat Nav destination, we asked a local who then pointed out Plas Winter and told us how to get to it.  It is currently occupied. There is a gated drive with a 'Plas Winter' sign at the end of it.  We drove up the drive and saw the house, which looked like it had been (and may still be) a farm house as there are outbuildings near it.  But I didn't have the courage to knock on the door.  I wonder how Fallows is related?  Shem and Sarah are my grandmother's (Florence Askwith) mother's (Charlotte Price),  father's (John Price), parents (Shem and Sarah).  Whew!  Just started looking into my family history - this was a real find.  A lovely ride in the Welsh countryside and a still existing abode at the end of it.  Many thanks.  Julie

Wow, that's really helpful that you found this info.  Thanks.
I didn't think I'd be able to trace any ancestors further back than the 1841 census, so I'm really pleased to have this information.
Many thanks for taking the time to find it for me.
