Its Pat again lol
Now i am researching my GreatGrandfather on my dads side.
John Wardell is from Dublin and i have his medal card what i believe is his i would like someone to decipher for me.
As a novice all this military jargon baffles me.
Also if i obtained the service record for John Wardell would it list his next of kin or address details?
Many thanks for helping.

Hello Pat,
John Wardell, Private 6756, Royal Dublin Fusiliers.
Awarded British War & Victory Medals. Also the 1914/15 Star.
Entered Theatre of War: Gallipoli, 24th May 1915. (Hence the Star)
Discharged to Silver War Badge, due to sickness or wounds.
Date of Discharge 23rd August 1916.
The other references are to the actual medal rolls which are available to view at Kew.

Thankyou forester :)
For a very interesting reply, meaning there wasn't a death, which will still give me room to search more of John movements after his discharge
if i obtained the service record for John Wardell would it list his next of kin or address details
Thank's again Pat

Pat,
He originally enlisted in 1906, for six years. Re-enlisted with the 5th Battalion in 1912 for a further four years.
His wife Catherine was his next of kin.
Some addresses in Dublin over the years:
Breens Court, off Lower Tyrone St
11 Lower(?) Gardiner St
2 Glouster Court
81 Railway
Married in May 1909 to Catherine Sheridan
Children John (1911) and Bridget (1913)

Phil ;DThank you soooo much you can't imagine what a find you have found for me
I have been working on my family tree for 3 years now ,and that is amazing what took you all of 10 mins to find, you even have Bridget as one of the children (my Grandma on my Dads side) who was named actually Susan at birth,Bridget was baptised in 1974 as Bridget, which i only came across by accident the night before we visited Dudlin last year,i was sure Bridget was the first born,i haven't had much luck finding John's ,i then found her mothers name as Catherine Sheridan,Lower Tyrone St and Gardiner St has come up a lot on my family tree
I have John and Catherine marriage cert it says John was a labourer? when they married 1909
Thank's again Pat

It's easy when you're reading from his service record ;D
John was actually a Special Reservist with 5th Battalion pre-war.
I'll be in touch soon. ;) ;)

Hi Phil how can i ever thank you enough, what an amazing read, the amount of detail enclosed,i never thought i would have ever known John's height, weight and the colour of his hair & eyes,it said that John was a widow at 17 years old ( but i think he may have been a few years older than he says )very sad to read that,i didn't even know he was married before he wed my G Grandmother Catherine ( who was also known as Mary )i have found a Denis in the national archives of Ireland and on his army records it says a Daniel Patrick ?,i also have Mary Ann Born 1909 in my records
also John had put his sisters as next of kin, one being Kate Wardell then later he put as next of kin Bridget Sheridan ?
so with all this new information to go on i shall be a very very busy bee :P
many many thanks
