Unfortunately I don't have a lot to go on but i'll give it a try. Donald Mclennan b. 1813 is the brother of my gt. grandfather, he was in Killearnan Ross & Cromarty Scotland to Donald McLennan and Ann Paterson. I found him on the New South Wales assisted immigrant passenger list 1828-1896. He arrived in Australia 11/02/1839 on the ship "James Moran" from Ross & Cromarty. I would love to trace him.

Hi Heaross,
You might have the wrong Donald there - the entitlement certificates have survived for this voyage and the Donald McLENNAN who arrived on the James Moran in 1839 was a 26 year old shepherd, born at Earloch? Rosshire, son of Farquhal McLENNAN and Christian McGREGGOR.

Hi Pat,
I know you said information on your man is limited, but what persuades you to believe he came to Australia?

Amazing!!!! Just strolling down the messages, I've found the Donald MacLennan for whom I had never been able to find anything (except his birth). I kept searching for him in Scotland and he was in Australia!
Where can I search for the passenger list of that voyage?
Cheers from a very happy Kiko

Hi Kiko,
Here is the information from the passenger list:
McLENNAN Donald, age 26yrs, unmarried shepherd of Rosshire.
Embarked 10 Oct 1838 on the 'James Moran' arrived 11 Feb 1839.
Native of Gairloch Ross and Cromarty Scotland, Religion - Church of Scotland.
Son of Farquhar McLennan and Christian McGreggor.
Donald was engaged to work for Mr McLeay of Sydney for £25 a year with rations.
'The James Moran', a ship of 600 tons, sailed under Captain Ferguson and Dr McNee.
Most of the 229 passengers on board were clearance victims.
They came to Australia under Rev John Dunmore Lang's Bounty Scheme, 2 people died on the voyage to Australia.
The voyage took 113 days, sailing directly to Cape Town, where it arrived 26th December, 1838.
20 passengers left the ship at Cape Town on New Year's Day.
When it arrived at Port Jackson, 210 passengers disembarked, including infants born on the voyage.

I have a Donald McLennan baptised at Alness 1815. Son of Murdoch McLennan and Mary Nicolson.
Their other children were:
Catherine McLennan (Contin 1817)
Janet McLennan (Contin 1820)
Christian McLennan (Contin 1822), and
Kenneth McLennan (Contin 1825).
I would be interested to hear from anyone who knows about any of this family.
