Hi
I am not sure if anyone can help, but I am trying to confirm if my granddad served in the RAF during the 2nd World War and if possible what he did.
My granddad was born in Belfast in 1922. He married in Cheshire I believe somewhere between 1940 and 1945ish. This I am not sure on, but I know that they were in Belfast in 1949 because my mum was born in that year.
Any help would be great

Could we have a full name please. If he was an officer his name will be in the London Gazette. And if aircrew he may apear in one of the lists.
But groundcrew are very difficult to trace, and one would need to request a search for a possible service record.

Sorry I forgot to put his name. His full name was William Taylor Thompson

Afraid he doesn't appear in the LG or RAF lists that i looked at. The only real way of knowing is by contacting the MoD and asking them to check. But that would have to be done by his NoK (your mum?). As you don't have service bumber you will need a date of birth at least. And ask for photocoies of any file found.

Thanks, with my mum no longer here can i request records or not.

Yes, in that case you probably can unless your mum had siblings. But chances are if you put in a request they won't really check on that.
Good luck, I hope you find something.
